Hi all..

I know this will be a stupid question for all you ace pilots... but what do
you use combat flaps for ? if you actually use them.

Thanks

Steve

when i'm very too fast behind an ennemy plane, when i haven't any other choice to stay in his six during dog fight!
but i not use flaps very often...

Slowing down gradually for a landing, I use combat flaps for a short time, then bump to down to landing flaps. When DF'ing with a lot of tight corners and bleeding speed, combat flaps I believe give you that little more lift you need to keep you going.

If you're low and slow in a fight and need to be evasive or stay behind someone who's trying to force you to overshoot, you can deploy combat flaps for short periods of time to fly slower and more controlled.

They're not to be used in most situations.

As well as to increase your turning performance, being able to turn slower, tighter, because of greater lift from the flaps...

Whether it improves turn performance depends on the goal of your turn.

Have a look here to learn more about flaps.

I definitely use combat flaps, a lot. It helps me to close my turn radius, and prevents me from stalling in some turns I often try to take too tightly.

I also use major flaps if I've got one or more bandits on my 6 and need a quick way to shake them. A quick deployment of flaps, a near-stall turn, then retract the flaps and dive dive dive!

Definitely.

I use combat flaps when closing on a planes six, if im not going to fast, slows you down just enough to get that last shot in.

Dex,

It's just not good energy fighting, but dumping E fast in a real emergency (like somebody sticking their cannons up your six) can be a great tactic.

I use them at the top of a loop when the speed drops below 200k. Helps you get over cleanly without stalling/falling to one side or the other.

In FB currently the lift/drag ratio is very low, so flaps provide little to any turning benefit.

The the patch, the flap performance is said to have been improved by one of the beta testers.

I use combat flaps when the plane I'm flying has heavy guns. It helps stabilise the platform and improves my accuracy when ground pounding.

Be careful of using them in air to air combat. It does bleed E and makes you a better target. (However...if it's a lone bomber...)
