If you get pilot-killed or blown-up before a dropped bomb or fish-in-the-water torpedo has hit it's target, they have no effect.

A bomb is still a bomb, even if I'm dead right? The same for a torpedo. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Is this some limit of the game's code because it doesn't have anybody to assign the hit to because I'm dead at the time of impact?

Just a curious thing I've noticed. If it's been discussed before, a link would be great. Thanks for any info.

Probably something to do with FBs game-world and network code where each plane and player 'owns' its projectiles. I think this got closed ages and ages ago to fix an infinite ammo issue with respawning planes. Might have carried over to single player.

Ah, OK. I didn't seem to recall reading anything about this.

Also, I was referring to online play, if that matters to the situation.

Old Bug.
reported it long ago. I think somebody before must have done it too.
No bomb will ever do any damage once the pilot is dead.
Especially nasty with bombtimers.
You go for wild-weasel attack, drop bomb, and before your bomb goes off you get killed by aaa.
You dies, see your plane crash, your bomb explodes (everyone sees it) and NOTHING happens.

We once had a mission to destroy a Destroyer. It took us 14 planes, since each time the pilot was killed by aaa during or after the release.

I think it's annoying that the you see your toprs going for 3 minutes and then simply go "Thump..." http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Same goes for 2 x 2k bombs.... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Old bug, understood. However, why does it still exist? It actually makes no sense that a bomb or torpedo becomes inactive because of a Pilot Kill. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

I guess they would fix it if they could with current game code? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Maybe this is something they will address in PF.

ur torpedo can be launched just outside the aaa screen. tho it will take a bit longer to get there, at least u'll survive to cause damage. skip or dive bombing still is a dance with suicide.

Yes, that's one way around the torpedos in the sea, but sometimes the water is narrow where the ships are and you have to get close just to launch, too.

I have one question: did this bug also count to AI pilots as well? (I don't know how to test that -- for sure it can be done when AI bailed then kill it in the mid-air). Would be nice if the bomber unload t's cargo on high alt I quickly catch and kill him while bombs are falling. And no damage recorded. Awesome. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I don't know if it's the same for single-player campaigns, but if it is, sounds like you've got a loophole to use. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
