Nothing!!! It's absolutely perfect.

Thanks 1C! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

(Please recheck the Type 97 MGs in the Zero, they still lack incendiary power. All other light MGs work fine.)

I was amazed that 4 MG 17s can down a Betty as quickly as 2 20mm in a short test because of fire... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

But I must say I first tested it against LaGG-3 '66, P-51D-5, F6F-5 and Yak-9 with no success - but they didn't even get fuel leaks at all - maybe I didn't hit the right parts.

There sure is something wrong with that picture.

The Betty has American markings and the 109 shoots a Betty. That's not the way it is supposed to be.

How else would you test the bizarro MG17 except with bizarro planes?

Well if 4 mg17 are equal to 2 20mm's, they're equally screwed. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The Mg151/20 is still a mystery to me. The damage effects from the HE and MS rounds seem very weak to me, but, others are insisting they are perfect.

Since the 17s are now corrected i'll take a look at the MG151...

Butch,

Many of us have been looking at this and we think it is all HE type rounds for all 20mm cannon, not just the Mg151/20.

The Mg151/20 is just the most effected because of belt composition. Anyway, thanks for looking at it.

My suggestions for the 151/20 and all other HEs would be:

a) see about increasing the incendiary effects of explosive damage. We have API and HEI rounds, but straight AP and straight HE seem very unlikely to set anything on fire - even leaking non-self sealing fuel tanks.

b) see about concentrating fragment damage over a smaller area - or changing the shape of the explosion. The frags seem to get even distribution over a fairly even sphere at the moment, which means that the actual location that's hit by the round doesn't take anything like the full amount of damage. It gets spread all over other components of the plane. Since the effective radius of fragments [especially from something thin-walled like the MG shells] is going to be quite low to start with, does it really make sense to track the one single 1mm fragment that's going to chip some paint off a piece of the plane a few metres away?

As Faust says it really seems like it's all HE rounds, just that since the 151/20 has 80% explosives in the belt they come off worse. Plonked a 45mm HE shell from the NS45 into an FW190s prop spinner the other day and it trailed a light thin plume of smoke :<
