OK, this is probably the king of nit-picking posts, so let me first say that I LOVE this patch! I've basically put FB on the shelf for 6 months after I couldn't stand the arcadish flight models (I was spoiled with IL-2 v1.2) - but this new 1.1b... oh baby. I'm gonna be hooked all over again.

So, great job with the patch to Oleg and crew!

Now, I want to ask about the sound of the 109. One of my coolest memories of the IL-2 109 was the whistle of the supercharger when you changed throttle settings. After I first purchased IL-2, I couldn't figure out what the hell that sound was, until I did some research and learned about the 109s prominent supercharger on the left side of the engine. Very cool detail.

Now the 109s sound just like every other prop fighter, and I'm curious as to why the change? I really liked that distinctive 109 whistle.

OK, go ahead and flame me for such a tiny detail, but does anyone know the answer to this question?

Thanks

Istari

Yes, that induction whine/whistle was very endearing, had no idea it was gone!! That does stink if they took it away.

No flame here. I loved the blower whistle. You could almost use it as a tach. Since the sound is still messed up. It might have something to do with it.

Yes, I agree.

Something changed with the overall frequency response with beta 08 and 1.1b. I noted immediately that they required the subwoofer to be reduced alot vs. FB 1.0. This boost in the low frequencies seems to be at expense of other details.

This is not to mention all the other sound related issues. Perhaps they are somehow related.

I don't know why Oleg even messes with the sound anymore. He should just give us the IL2 sounds back. I thought they were good.

Oleg should allow us to use our own soundsamples with this game, same thing as done with the voices folder.
I have 100´s of weapon related-, engine- and general FX sounds just waiting here.

============================
When it comes to testing new aircraft or determining maximum performance, pilots like to talk about "pushing the envelope." They're talking about a two dimensional model: the bottom is zero altitude, the ground; the left is zero speed; the top is max altitude; and the right, maximum velocity, of course. So, the pilots are pushing that upper-right-hand corner of the envelope. What everybody tries not to dwell on is that that's where the postage gets canceled, too.

Bubb Rubb was recently layed off from 1C corporation. After his departure management decided to remove the whistle tips from the 109s.

Ya, I miss that sound/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif It can actualy make you feel the accel of the plane.../i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
BTW SeaFire , You rememberd me about on thing: I got a !09 manual, copied and translated from the original WWII manuals, and there states that That Horn when you lower the flaps should be heared ONLY IN ENGINE IS IDLE AND YOUR FLAPS ARE FULLY LOWERED, BUT THE GEAR IS STILL UP! But no matter what your engine power is, you still hear that sound. IIRC, This sound dates from the orig IL2 age, and is quite some time from then. There probably is an explanation about why hasn't been modified.../i/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Quote from "Bf 109 G-2 Flight and aintainance manual"(english translation, originaly published in March 1943):
"J. LANDING
.....
.....
5) You will hear a warning tone if the undercarriage is not locked down properly, and you start extending the flaps. The sound can only be heared when the engine is idle. "

I still have the whistle, and it's still as loud as it was as far as I recall it.

I switched back to 16 channels since 32 channels gave me some sound bugs, like the missing whistle and I could not hear radio trafic anymore.

When I switched to 16 channels both were in place again.

There are a lot of sounds missing or playing at extremely low levels. Hunter believes their absence is related to the larger sound bug. If the 109 whistle is the only sound you are missing, or barely able to hear, then count yourself lucky.

Yes I am serious, also my flap horn sounds the same as in IL2 as well, not loud at all.

FYI, I get the whistle loud and clear. The sound is excellent all around. I'm using integral sound on a very low end rig. Set at 16.
