I am so glad 1.21 patch is out. It has brought back some things that were lacking in all previous versions... most of all a very good FM (roll rate in particular) of me favorite P-40.

I am of the opinion now IL-2 is trully the one and only game or flight sim, or what ever you call it, that has given us most for the money! In fact the money spent is more then accounted for /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

In the past couple months things did start going down hill but finally 1.21 has got it back to the right track and I can't be more grateful for this!

so...

Thank you Oleg so much... you've brought hope back in my life! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Thanks also to everyone else who was involved in bringing some issues to the open so they could be fixed... and of course... Oleg's team working on IL-2!

I will second that I think Olegs team realy pulled one out of the hat this time /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

"The Heavens were the grandstands, and only the Gods were spectators. The stake was the World. The forfeit was the Player's place at the table; and the Game had no recess. It was the most dangerous of all sports-- and the most fascinating. It got in the blood like wine. It aged men 40 years in 40 days; it ruined nervous systems in an hour. It was a fast game-- the average life-span of a pilot at the Front was 48 hours. And, to many, it seemed an Age."

Bavaria is one of the oldest European states.
It dates back to about 500 A.D., when the Roman Empire was overcome by the onslaught of Germanic tribes. According to a widespread theory, the Bavarian tribe had descended from the Romans who remained in the country, the original Celtic population and the Germanic invaders.

Maybe this time ... almost every other time I thanked Oleg and Team for this sim, someone posted comments like "a$$ kisser" and "Oleg worshiper." Just saying thanks ... again ... and I mean it.

It's great to see a thread like this to balance all those "gimme gimme" posts. Remember Pong? When that game came out in the '70s people were impressed lol just a few white dots bouncing around a TV screen. Wonder what the sims will be like in another 30 years.

u did do a hell of a job on this go around with the p-40. better roll rate, speed, manuverability and climb rate to a point. the jug tho, still suffers in the d-27 model. figured a 1944 or 1945 model ship would be the cream of the crop in fm and the d-10/22 will outclimb it.

a6m5 and frank are still a bit too fast speed wise. japanese did have fast ships, but they couldnt maintain that speed for long. especially not in dives when the control surfaces would freeze. actually, u should have left the frank out and put in the a6m2 zeke. it was slightly slower than the m5; m5 had a better dive rate with their different style wings, but the a6m2 had a climb rate that no plane would be able to match. zero's mg's is a tad over-modded also...they had alot smaller caliber than the 50 cal of the american's. p-39 shouldnt be able to outperform the zero. zero's smacked them down with ease when the war started; they were basically more inferior than the carrier based wildcats.

the .303's of the hurricane stand out 3x's better than the 50 calibers.....that's the only suck point. i didnt see much of tracer fire from a hurricane or a spitfire; then again, it might not have been available.

seems the hurricane is much slower than the p-40. spitfire was faster at high alt, but shouldnt the hurricane be almost as fast up to 2000 meters...it's a dog right now.

there is just 1 problem. there's no way a p-11 would have a chance against the modern ships from 1941 and up..and especially not the dm. speed is off for a little putt-putt plane....it shouldnt be nearly as fast, and it definatly shouldnt have the dive speed its capable of. i've shot it at almost point blank range with 37mm cannon fire on the wings and it still flys; 1 shot from that cannon on a 109 or 2 hits to the wing of a 190 and their on their way to terra firma. p-11 also has way too much climb rate...equal to the zeke.

this patch is as close to real as u can get. it's cfs2's wet dream. cfs2 never had any patch, never had add-on's, was wide open to modification's to cheat, couldnt do torpedo or bombing runs in it either. csf2 would tell u where u hit and how much....fb, nada. u say the ai gunner's are snipers....so is the capability of getting hits from as far out as 1300-1400' from a p-38 in cfs2.
it's true the p-38 was known to kill from 1000' out, but deflection shooting in a p-38 was an art form; few could do so. most of the 38 attacks were from dead 6 and no plane caught in the fire would survive. highly concentrated fire blew the zeke's apart before they knew they were there.

p-39 shouldnt be
- able to outperform the zero. zero's smacked them
- down with ease when the war started; they were
- basically more inferior than the carrier based
- wildcats.

this is tottally wrong!
At low level the P-39
was one of the fastest fighters in level flight,
when used rigt, it should have the advantage over both
the Zero and Wildcat.

"I will answer this question with an analogy. If I give you a high
powered rifle and tell you it is a club, and you foolishly use it as a
club, and I give another person a 45 cal. pistol, and he knows how to
use it. Who do you think will be the victor.

The same applies to fighters.

If you don't use your equipment properly, you are going to lose the
fight. The Americans unfortunately had been taught the antiquated
dogfighting technic that had been used in WW I, and wasn't successful
against the Zero.

In the early stages of the war the allied
pilots were not using their equipment correctly. (For your
information, the Allies never built an airplane that could turn inside
the Zero below 200 mph.) So how do you think we eventually outfought
them at every engagement. CHANGE OF TACTICS

In 1943, when the P-38 was first used in the Pacific, the Zero pilots
were shooting them down in large numbers. (See Subro Sakai's book
Zero.)

Isn't this amazing when you consider that the P-38's top speed was 100
mph faster than the Zero, and pilots were still trying to dogfight the
Zero.

- there is just 1 problem. there's no way a p-11
- would have a chance against the modern ships from
- 1941 and up

yes it can, if used with skills and right fighter tacktics,
this is even proved in P-11 history,

..and especially not the dm. speed is
- off for a little putt-putt plane....it shouldnt be
- nearly as fast, and it definatly shouldnt have the
- dive speed its capable of.

Wrong again
the P-11 was capable of diving fast,
this was often used to down Bf109Es,
the Bf109 pilots didnt think the P-11 could dive fast
but to their surprise they could.
