now that is can be talked about. what I have read here is that all don't want to cheat FM/Dm. what is wanted is the extra stuff better sounds/ 6Dof. ect. AAA will band a poster trying to mess with the FM/Dm. Is it possable to Have a Mod That Checks out the Mods for the open servers? this would help to keep the Fm/Dm Hacks out.

From what I understand, there is no sure way to find out if someone is using a hack that changes the FM.

is there a way to tag the "good" mods? Then if you have a mod and it is not on the list then you don't get in the server

Mods from AAA will have NO FM/DM/or WM changes.
So anything from there is considered a 'good' mod,in as much as there is such a thing.

I have been using the mods since D-Day.. and our coops have been just as interesting, no weirdness.. not yet anyway. Looking at what's available at AAA I think that most folks will use what they want... and I really dont think the cheating will be a major issue. It could... the potential is there.. but I refuse to concern myself about something thathasnt happened yetm when I can enjoy what I have, and look forward to SoW.

AAA is an excellent "adjunct" to this site IMO. Many has been a time here where someone came in asking if a particular plane would ever be made flyable. Now we can point them in the right direction and make them a totally satisfied customer. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif The site's doesn't allow any fm/dm changes. It is a very credable site indeed.

and it makes the old Il-2 into a new and fresh product again till SOW comes out. Totally free of charge.

It would be really really really nice if we could discuss here what mods we would like to see developed there! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

I know one person who has had a particular request in a mod in from the day I started.

BearCat.

He has always wanted and requested rockets on his p-51 but never got them. A very simple request you would think.

I hope you get them now buddy, finally... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

The nice thing I see in AAA is that wishes that were requested here and were never able to be granted are being granted finally.

a very nice thing indeed till SOW comes out. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

even then who knows what the computer requirments will be for that game. I have a feeling these new mods will be a saving grace for many a cash strapped customer who can't afford to upgrade his computer to soon or if ever.

Ive never 'discussed' mods at all here but am a keen 'user'.Ive donated a little towards the running of the site-money I and many others Im sure would have happily paid Oleg for this kind of content ,Spit Mk1,AI Nav lights off at night,English Channel map, etc etc etc .Oleg really should have embraced these guys instead of shunning them .They are in it for love of the game thats plain to see.
Also some people around here might take note that off the top of my head Id say the 'official' (yellow) forums have maybe around ten posts a day and these fora fiftyish on a good day .The AAA community sometimes has well over a hundred posts a day.(These are very rough guesstimates -it could be more like 5/20/200 posts)(There are threads on the AAA fora extending to over 20/30 pages not on silly flame war topics but people helping one another out .
I realise theres a load of great people here too and I have loved this place for 4 or 5 years but dont think that the AAA community are a bunch of cowboys cos they are arguably the premier IL2 website.

Good news for freedom of speech on this forum, considering:
- delays and blackout about BoB-SoW and even 4.09
- even Maddox is out of this forum and very scarce on the Il-2 1C one
see: http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=2040
- the fact that easy to use 4.08 or 9 Mods ON or OFF exe can make any serious player happy.

About the console IL-2 version coming in 2009, read this:
http://previews.teamxbox.com/xbox-360/1998/IL2-Sturmovik-Birds-of-Prey/p1/
"Birds of Prey includes a simulation mode that is no different than the most strict simulation mode of the original PC title."

There is a way to ensure no mods are being used on the server, but no way to police certain mods and not others however.

You either chose modded, or not.

I just find it a total revelation and relief to even be able to talk about it here openly. It was exactly like the anology of the elephant in the living room. That elephant was getting awfully big! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

FYI, the MODs over there at AAA are not all AAA mods. they are mods built my community members for the community. When i helped build the Solomon Islands map, it was under the idea that the comunity owned it not AAA or anyone else. I understand calling them AAA mods because they were one of the few sites that saw the elephant in the room early, but just because a mod was discussed there or posted there dosen't make it theirs. It just pains me a little, like if i were to release a skin of a b-25 here and everyone called it a UBI skin just because they saw it here at UBI Zoo.

end of rant that was not directed at any one person.

Agree totally THRUD.Also everyone should be aware that there are other mods being worked on,notably a 1:1 scale Battle of Britain and a 1:1 scale European map (yes really,8 hour B17 flights anyone?) that are not being developed at AAA.

Correct, it just happens to be the street corner we all met to exchange these ideas.

Just to throw some info out here:

I'm an admin for the Skies of Fire and Skies of Valor servers. ( I fly as FS~Dusty) For anyone that doesn't know, Fire is an open-pit arcade-like server, and Valor is a closed pit, historical server.

We have allowed the mods to be used on our servers from the get-go. Most of the time, we are the most populated servers on HL - and as you can imagine we work very hard to keep it a good, honorable place to fly.

In light of that, we have watched the mod situation very closely for signs of exploits being used on our servers. By and large, we have found none.

We simply have not had any long-term negative impact on our servers from these mods. On the contrary, the benefits of the mods to our servers is considerable. Having flyable heavy bombers alone is a huge plus. And being able to fly a Vichy French P-36 during Operation Torch, or for the Fins in the Winter war is just crazy fun.

As always, we'll continue to closely watch for any harmful exploits to come from the mod - but the gentlemen at AAA have done an A+++ job of self-policing, and of breathing incredible amounts of new energy into our favorite sim.

Hats off the the hard workers at AAA, and to the mods here for allowing open discussion on this topic. Good times http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif ~S~

WOWzaa! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif gotta check that out when ever it makes it into the light of day. I used to love B-17II Flying Fortress way back when.

I wonder how that will run..

I also think that the strongest asset in this situation is us. The way that we reacted in the beginning to this is understandable considering the history of modding particularly in combat flight sims. There is a certain amount of attention to craft so to speak that you just dont find in other things.. and we are a competitive lot. But this community in particular has always been more picky. Many of us left CFS because of modding and that's where a lot of the angst came from. Now who knows... 5 years from now we may all be somewhere else because the sim has been porked, but for me personally I would rater err on the side of placing faith in some folks that I have known and come to respect over the last 6 years, rather than assume the worst and put my head in the sand. We can police ourselves to some extent.. at least I think so.

One thing I've found interesting about this whole modding debate is that I remember WAY back when, that many of the flyable planes WOULDN'T have been except for the work of people outside on 1C. Heck, I think it was the Do-335 that was done almost entirely by 3rd party people....
