In another thread (Graf & Grislawski and IL-2/Forgotten Battles), I was again asked whether a second edition of "Black Cross/Red Star" is planned.

"Black Cross/Red Star", Volume 3 will be published by Eagle Edition in early 2004. After that, they will look into the possibility of doing a second edition of Vol. 1. Keep an eye open for news at:

All best,

Bavaria is one of the oldest European states.
It dates back to about 500 A.D., when the Roman Empire was overcome by the onslaught of Germanic tribes. According to a widespread theory, the Bavarian tribe had descended from the Romans who remained in the country, the original Celtic population and the Germanic invaders.

Hi Christer
Are there any plans to publish "Graf&Grislawski" in Germany?
Via Amazon it is not available (they cancelled my order). Also was there ever interest in a german translation of your works?
It feels somewhat strange to read about that in english and I would have liked to read accounts by germans (especially Grislawski) in their original version instead of your (though very good) translation.

Boandlgramer, yes thanks a lot, I got your PM. It's only that I've received such a huge amount of e-mail lately, that I don't know where to find the time to write replies. And next week, Claes Sundin are off for our next research trip to Germany. Meetings with pilot veterans.

But your PM was great!

All best,

Christer Bergstr√¬∂m

I will tell you that Eagle publishes NICE books. If you like books, Eagle produces a nicely bound, heavy, beautifully pritned book. I have "Green Hearts: First In Combat With the Dora 9" and it's a work of art.

Unfortunately, they are expensive. "Green Hearts" was nearly $90.

Since I found your page, I'm planning on buying voulume 2.
I kept looking for it at B&N and Borders, but just couldn't find it. They told me it was out of print. I didn't even know it was in print.
I have volume 1. It was very good.

newbravado

It's easy to find Vol2. If you want one. I have a brand new one still in the shipping box that I never opened. I got sent two of them by mistake, and was too lazy to send it back. Give me an offer.

On the example pdf file about the battle before Moscow, there was mention of Fb109s having to move to forward strips during the day to be able to protect the troops from Soviet air attack.

Just wondering about, on "average," how far from frontlines were German and Soviet aircraft based. Like, if the airfields on our maps, all quite visible and very prepared, give us a fairly histerically realistic frontal airfield distribution, even if they do not represent actual hysterical airfields.

Knowing that there's going to be a reprint of Vol. 1 makes the other books much more attractive to me! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif I cannot imagine having a Volume 2 (and/or 3) book of any reference set sitting on the bookshelf by itself.

Since these volumes only cover a six month period. Are you going to cover the whole war? That would be about 7-8 volumes.
