Hello all,

I am new to the forums and thought I would introduce myself by sharing my first mission.

So I venture out of port and plot my route. I am playing on low realism with a plan to increase as I get more experienced. I get to my grid and perform my duties without so much as a sniff at any British boats. Not to worry I think, I will head over to the Lincolnshire coast to see what I can find. Well once we get there I stumble across a nice merchant with a few tonnes that are crying out to be sent to the bottom of the North Sea.

I line up my torpedoes and, due to my inexperience, use them all on one merchant ship. Nevertheless, the boat is sunk and my men cheer heartily as they anticipate a nice cold brew and some bratwurst back at dock. After taking in the smoke and sounds of our hard earned destruction I plot a course back to base and compress the time to get there as quickly as possible as some Frauleins are getting cold in bed at night.

Sadly, as I head home I did not realise that I was submerged the whole time until I received the message that my sub had sunk and all the couragous young men aboard had drowned!!!

And so ends the glorious career of my first Captain.

As an epilogue my second Captain managed to get safely home after his first mission with nearly 9000 tonnes sunk and slightly increased realism.

May your torpedoes fly straight and your ears stay dry.

Welcome Herr Pugwash. Glad to have you aborad. There some smart people here so dont be afrade to ask a question. So allways keep a full watch, have a sharp deck guner and never eat chocolate pudding. If you folow these rules and use caution you just might be lucky enough to join the 100K club. Or take out an entire convoy. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Nice forum name. I used to love listening to our Captain Pugwash tapes when my kids were little. I like the one where the crew has a mutiny and are all so very democratic, [like the early communists in Russia who initially banned ranks in the new Red Army.] "We're all captains, now!" Another one was the episode about the "midnight feast." My young son and I would sometimes stay up late and have our own midnight feast as a result.

Welcome aboard.

Must have fallen asleep during the "surface" portion at the Kriegsmarine Schule!

LOL. That is funny. Live and learn!
Your a brave man for making that your FIRST post.

Welcome aboard all the same. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

What you have on your computer is an addictive sim that makes a good attempt at simulating U-boat life in many respects. Be careful you dont ruin your life. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I suggest you read a book or two about diesel/electric submarines.

You can also go visit uboat.net. It is rich with WW2 U-boat information.
Subsim.com is a good place for SH3 mods and info as well as uboat.realsimulation.com.

Enjoy!
Matt

Welcome!

Ooooh. . .I usually take a mulligan on one of those things. I'm definitely one to let a career end and start a new one if my character is killed, but on those HUGE errors that wouldn't seem even possible with anyone aboard and even SLIGHTLY paying attention, I usually cut myself some slack.

Otherwise, there's a mystery that might not get solved for decades! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Thanks for the welcome guys. Glad to be here.

I probably would have reloaded the game if it wasn't my first mission. I look forward to the day when my main worries are whether or not I have the angle of the torpedo calculated correctly with a manual shot. But that might be awhile. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
