View Full Version : Recruits not missing fingers when the ritual seem to clip one.

How come the Assassin recruits get the finger clipped off when Ezio has all his intact? In AC2 Leonardo Da Vinci upgraded the design for the hidden blade so it would no longer be necessary for the user to lose the finger.

Thinking about it i have never noticed that the recruits is missing a finger when looking at their hands...

I want an explanation!

They're not cutting the fingers off, they're burning a mark on it http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif ...

They're not getting their finger clipped off but branded with the Assassin emblem.

You obviously have not played ACII, Since the start of the Renaissance the Assassin's have become "Less literal than their ancestors" meaning now they just burn the finger rather than cut it off. The reason it once was cut off was because the hidden blade could not function otherwise, but thanks to new technologies it can without the removal of a finger.

Actually the hidden blade could function just fine with all digits attached, it was just cut off as a sign of commitment. "Becoming one with the blade", as it were.

Read the codex pages in AC2. Altair said he was going to change that so they wouldn't have to remove their fingers.

You also need to play ACII again and listen to what Leonardo says when he fixes the first blade.

"The blade was designed to ensure the commitment of whoever wields it." Meaning if you activate it with a clenched fist the blade would sever your ring finger. But did you also notice that whenever Altair activated his hidden blade he would always flick his hand back first, out of the blade's path? Only then would he wrap his hand around it with the blade protruding from his fist. And whenever he uses it for assassinations/combat it's usually done with an open palm, there's no logical reason for having a finger missing to operate the blade other than it was an initiation ritual (also notice how Malik at the start wields a hidden blade with all 10 digits - a skipped detail on the developers part, methinks).

I was just replaying AC and, when i choose hidden blade and press X(xbox360), it just come out like ezio's hidden blade, beneath the wrist.
Is my game bugged or what? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

What on earth do you mean? Altair's hidden blade was under his wrist as well... the only character who wears it differently is the Smuggler from BH. But she's a templar, so she doesn't count.

Basically the blade in 1090 was "dangerous" to the user and could wound the wearer, the blade was not on the middle of the hand, it was at the exact position of the ring finger, plus cutting it out would mean you were up to anything for the creed, so it was a commitment and "safety" up to some point. Later Altair changed the HB's position slightly and put an end to all the fanacy show of the assassin's so they could be a "secret society", giving up the castles and everything, being thousand times more secretive.

That's basically it, don't argue about this anymore, don't make it complicated arguing if it was one thing or the other, it was both.

List of things we'll never see the end of:

* Lucy missing a finger in AC1
* People spelling 'Ezio' with an 'n'
* This whole hidden blade/finger issue
* Not being able to climb the Acre viewpoint in AC2
* Not knowing how to select the Hidden Blade in Leonardo's workshop
* PC release dates
* AC4 theories
* French Revolution
* Feudal Japan
* American Civil War (stop calling it simply 'civil war', America wasn't the only country to have one y'know)
* Female Assassins as protagonists
* Lucy Stillman
* Un-equipping weapons & armour
* Lack of street animals & children
* Combat too easy
* AC movie
* "Auditore cape makes you notorious, WTF?"
* DRM
* Graphic downgrade
* Fixed camera sucks
* Multiplayer is boring
* etc.

Nice!
There are more things you can add to the ever growing list, Like:
*Are the AC games anti-religious/something else?

Pretty sure they just burn the finger. They don't burn an emblem into it, that'd be one step too far toward being TOO easy to identify.

But still, an internet for you sir.

yea back in ac2 when ezio found out the people who had helped him where assassin's too (pretty obvious secret) they burnt a mark on ezio's finger and then they all did the leap of faith from the tower... and so ezio became a real assassin... and so now when the recruits are ready they get the mark burnt into their finger aswell
