I love this game, but omg does the camera actually go out of its way to make it as painful as possible?

I've never played a game with such an annoying camera. What exactly is the reason for the camera being "wrenched out of my hands" every few minutes?

I'm at the big battle in Forli, trying to protect Caterina and Machiavelli, and it's IMPOSSIBLE to keep track of them on the screen.

Whenever an enemy engages me, the camera is restricted. Not to mention, as usual, when I kill someone the camera is wrenched around to get the best possible view of the killing move I've seen a thousand times before, making me lose sight of everything that actually matters.

This is honestly THE most frustrating third-person game I've EVER played in this one (and incredibly important) respect.

Pointlessly repetitious cinematics have taken over the gaming experience. There should be an OPTION to turn of this freaking annoying automatic camera!

Needed to get that off my chest somewhere in sight of Ubisoft. Please please please don't do this in future AC games!!! Make it an option!

Wait until you get to the last assassin's tomb. You're gonna want to put your head through a wall.

I agree, it's bloody annoying. Not to mention when I'm in any battle, especially in a cramped space, and the camera ends up behind a bush or inside a wall. I can't see what Ezio or the guards are doing, I can't move the bloody camera to a better position and I can't move Ezio. All I can do is hack away and hope Ezio will kill enough guards or move to a better position through pure luck...

If you really lose your bearings that much with the action cam then you have seriously impaired coordination.

Pretty easy to loose your bearings when your vision is of a wall...

The main problem is that the camera sometimes gets stuck behind a wall or a bush when Ezio is locked on to an enemy in a cramped space (like an alley or a backyard) because the "locked on" function focuses the camera on the enemy (at least for a PC player) and doesn't let me move the camera around Ezio as freely as usual.

Have you tried setting the Action Camera to 1 instead of the default 4 in the Options\General tab which is accessed while in game? Ezio still does the finishing moves, it's just not a close up animation every time.

Does this leave the camera in control of the player, or does it still hijack the camera?

Well, I have the PC version and the Console Version (ps3) and I have to say, that I enjoyed the console version much better at the "controls" part. I had never an annoying camera etc thanks too the controller... On my PC, I really have problems at certain times with the camera http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif (And yeah, I can get really angry on such thinks ^^ )

OK, it's a battle, but I found the endless fight from group to tgroup aspect of Forli got old soon.

Keeping track of your escorts is easier if you lock the map marker to them as allies, much as you would on an enemy you're tracking in one of those missions.

Another person here has verified this as well. There's nothing in the manual describing exactly what the Action Camera setting adjusts though.

I would describe it as the finishing moves happening with much less of a cinematic zoom effect. Because of that the camera remains at a more predictable distance and angel, and the finishing moves look and feel more like a flowing part of the game, vs separate animations added in.

After playing the game more, I understand why the camera has to vary in distance and angle to some degree. It tries to adapt to the number of people you're fighting, the size of space your in, and the layout of the structures around you. It's just that it often does so horribly.

I have found that besides setting Action Camera to 1, choosing your battle spot before you engage in it when possible is key. It's a LOT easier to rotate the camera in a position you prefer when you have adequate space in which to do so. Ever wonder why the camera doesn't go springy nearly as much when fighting on rooftops? It's most likely because there's usually no obstacles in the way of it.

That being said, I do feel those in charge of the in game camera really did their jobs poorly. I get fairly upset with camera problems in the TR games I've played, and this one is miles worse. One of the things it's really bad at is giving you freedom of view whilst free running on the roofs. It's just way too damn springy.
