When you have someone on your 6, how do you shake'em.Do you climb high or do you do a split S, or a break!! For me it depends. But I luv to do a split S then a Quick break then a high climb into another split S,hopefully Im some where with in their highside or in setup for a front kill.

I just do a constant left turn...circling, circling, circling until I've scrubbed off enough speed to almost roll into the ground. At that point I straighten out to get some more "E" so I can play ring around the rosey some more!

Problem is, I always get shot down doing this /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

well no tactics from me.....MUHAHAHA...but i usually fly the La's so most of the time i can outrun intruders on my 6, kinda giving a little wing wave goodbye as i pull away slowly......LMAO

I fly the FW so i try to run away or dive. if the other one is coming in fast and i have less E than him i roll around a bit and then flaps down and pull the stick back. usually everyone passes you without hitting. than flaps in immediately and dive away thru some clouds and disappear. lol

Assuming that you have gotten yourself into a position where someone is on your six anyway, you are going to have to try and ascertain precisely *who* is on your six in the first place before you can choose an aircraft specific tactic.

If I am buzzed by someone with much better E, then I already know I am in trouble, the best thing I can do is hope to out turn them on the initial pass, and then claw as much height as I can while they zoom on up for a second try. At least I should be able to figure out what plane I am facing and adjust accordingly.

If I am on someone else's six and a bandit just drops in the slot behind me, then it's a fair bet that our energy levels are roughly equivalent, in which case depending on speed and the chap behind I either pull a maximum rated turn or take the fight into the vertical with non-cardinal rolls and twisted split s.

IMHO the worst thing one can do is dive for the deck and start hedgehopping, unless you know that you have better dive characteristics and are trading the altitude for superior speed to get you out of range.

Most of the time I'll be able to get out of the second scenario fairly quickly, and in the first case if I survive the first pass I can make things quite difficult for my opponent.

Sometimes - and only sometimes - a deliberate stall with the resulting roll into a dive can be an effective way of destroying your opponent's firing solution, but you have got to be bloody sure that the conditions are right, so I would leave it alone for now.

Lastly, the single most effective way to lose someone on your tail is to have your wingman put a bullet through his canopy and to fill the air with bandit hair, teeth and eyeballs.

I always try to keep my little ol' plane real still to make them expend all their ammo. Unfortunately this tactic hasn't really worked well yet, but I'm sure it will, if I just try hard enough. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Man I luv to have someone try to peck at me with cannon's guns a blazing.I think to myself I gotta get outta here,And in the fastest manner.A quick dive to get distance and then and then huge some alt to get the advantage of E.Then set in on the bandits tail and then let my MG's do the talkin

There are aircraft-specific tricks. For example, if you know you're fighting an airplane with a gravity-fed carburetor, you can quickly nose over and dive. This probably works quite well for example in a 109 being attacked from behind by an I-16. The I-16 can quickly roll and pursue, but the 109 pilot should be able to dive faster or else already be well into turning somewhat and extending before the I-16 can catch up. The problem is that the I-16 might hit you with the first shots...

A lot depends on the settings. In full real/full hard you can use camoflauge for evasion. In my first VOW mission I flew a La-5F into combat and we engaged some 109s. Someone attacked me from directly behind, but apparently they were impatient because the shots were well to the left. I simply broke and the 109 moved on. The shots were not as far to the left as I thought because my left aileron had the skin torn away. I kept fighting, and twice a 109 completely evaded me by diving into a cloud. I often follow 109s down because that's where I want them. However, the clouds effectively hid them. In retrospect I would have stayed above the cloud and waited to see them come out before I carefully pursued.

When flying full hard it is important to remember to check six frequently.

One thing I have learned after a couple months of squadron fighting is that pulling straight up when someone is on your six is almost always the wrong thing to do. Only do this to reverse when you have distance.

I got Fighter Combat by Robert Shaw for my birthday, so maybe after a few more months of fighting and reading I can give better answers. /i/smilies/16x16_robot-happy.gif

Depends which plane I'm in (I only fly Allied) : BTW, bringing the enemy to the nearest AAA, freind or foe, usually helps.

P-39: roundabout maneuvers. Barrel rolls, loops, immelmans and split esses.

P-47: The Zoom climb works for me. I start out at 500 KPH and then pull up. Once I'm up at around 2000 meters, I immelman down and dive. Repeat.

P-11: Outmaneuver everyone!!!!! The low stall speed makes it easy, but watch your E, it's precious, dive a lot if you're high and stay low if you can.

Hurri: With current bugs, climb!!! Also, use armament advantage, spray a few shots, you may hit vital areas. NOT with the one with 4 cannons. Dive, but never go above 340 KPH, or it will blow apart, most likely a bug.

P-40: DIVE!!!! DIVE!!!! but NOT above the speed of 540 KPH Or you will die.

Okay? Also, here's the best tip. B&Z and don't let them get on your six in the first place.

Depence who`s on my 6.
Still, most common is dive to gain speed then climb then spiral climb then...strike back /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

I get at high speed about 500m off the ground. then I pull my trim lever all the way back (since I use the RBJ Shift it is almost all the way back anyway) wait a few seconds then roll over and do the most unbelievably hard 180 turn towards the ground imaginable. Before I black out I check to make the sure the plane is level.

Sometimes I black out but don't level out and keep on turning. This still can be successful once I come out of it the other guy is still confused about what happened and off in the distance.

If someone is on my six w/ > E than me I do barrel rolls and slanted loops to force an overshoot or at least rolling scissors. I do this for = E situations too, but that is more difficult. If they have < E than me there is really not a huge problem.

If someone is B&Z you your best option is to disengage IMO. Fly into the clouds twards home bace, twards frendlies, anything to stop the attack so you can meet again on even tearms. Most people will try to counter attack in EVERY situation. graveyards are full of these people.

As has been said before determining the attacking AC type will dictate your exact style. You want to consider her AC's characteristics vs. your own. Most important is turn rate, acceleration, top speed, climb, roll, and armament. .

well in the 190 d i just kick it up to about 630 kph pull away and then when im far enough out i pull up and around and zoom down on his six and finnish the job...

if he was zooming on me... well then i take the prop pitch raise it to about 70 % put the throttle to about 103 and then just dart, roll climb, jig, all the while keeping about 430- 450 kph through all the manuvers. then they expend all thier ammo and i then roll around and get the kill....

In my limited expirience in actually getting away, I have found side-slipping with the rudder to be of some help, just to break up their aim, and then see how they compensate and go the other way! Also, fly something with a backseat gunner, as he is a great help to clear your six. I use the side-slip method with my stuka with good results!

I thort you meant "what is your favorite joke?". Oh well, I guess your using some sort of avionics term or some such, but I'll answer the question you didn't ask anyway.

So, an infinite number of mathematicians walks into a bar. The first walks up to the bartender and orders a full glass of beer. Then the second one walks up and order half a glass. Then the third one walks in and orders a quarter of a glass. The fourth one walks up, but before he can say anything, the bartender places two full glasses of beer on the bar, and says "divide it amongst yourselves".

Okay, that's not really my favorite joke, but its the only one I can tell on these forums /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
