seems the costs will put it off

Would that be the Bristol Mercury engine (or similar)?

The SoW:BoB development team are looking for reference pictures of it ,here:

Sorry if it's a stupid question.

Can I say 'Corrrrr look at the pistons on that!?!' Or shall I just piston off and stop spamming this thread http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Looks great though, although I would love a plane attach to the end of it http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Is there actually a market for this stuff? I have thought about making this sort of toy before, but only as a personal hobby. I never thought that it could actually be done for profit. I did interview at a place that made scale model jet engines about ten years ago, but declined because I could see that the owner of the shop was an agressive A-hole looking for a chance to explode.

The design that is pictured looks fairly simple to produce as far as radials go. Does anyone here know if there actually is a steady market for this kind of product, and if there are shops that are already established that build this something similar to this item? (ie, competition)

I would like to know because if I could make a reasonably good living at it, I might be willing to invest the money to tool up and manufacture this type of product depending on the factors involved.

Here's another gem on the block:

EBay Auction Page (http://cgi.ebay.com/MORTON-M-5-CYLINDER-IGNITION-MODEL-AIRPLANE-ENGINE-RARE_W0QQitemZ110223794561QQihZ001QQcategoryZ34055 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

It looks like there might be a market for this stuff after all. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif What I don't like is how the propeller blades are mounted in the spinner. There are only two screws holding the two blades in the spinner via friction. Before firing this thing up, I would advise cutting a groove around the base of each prop, and then drill and tap the spinner for at least two set screws for each bore to lock down and hold the prop blades whenever the engine is run. If one of those blades came loose at 3500 R.P.M, it could make a mess.

Radial engines for R/C aircraft are already in mass production (note that by "mass" I mean they aren't hand made). My old man has 3 or 4 he's used over the years. They are not scale replicas however.
