View Full Version : Man, I wish we could place battlefield-smoke in FMB!

The same smoke that comes from a sinking ship would do fine. It would be great to have it as an object in the missionbuilder, to create more atmosphere to the battlefield. Been experimenting with kamikaze-planes crashing in to cities before the playerflight appears and it gives a little more feeling of action has been taken place. But the 'burning-ship-smoke' looks better than the 'burning-plane-smoke'. Oh well, dream on... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

That would probibly be very demanding on the computer. as discussed earlier about adding infantry. id rather see infantry then battlefield smoke first. i guess we will both keep dreaming, or wait until Battle of Britain. *fingers crossed*

Smoke would be killer on the systems. We should also be getting smoke from the exhaust stacks when we go to full throttle very quickyl and on many engines we should be leaking oil at higher throttle settings. All of these things would add emersion to the game but would take such a toll on current rigs that I doubt we'll see them for at least a couple of years.

Yeah, I know. But it would be cool though! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

They could make placable static FB clouds (fixed on the map btw). You could Choose black colour, and this would be oil refinery smoke.

However, old pics of burning oil targets showed smoke towering up to 5km altitude or more (that's 16,400 feet for the PF set).

You could navigate by such large clouds, same with thunderstorm clouds, although the map horizon is drawn to only 20km (30km in Perfect Mode).

Amazing pic. That fluffy white "FB" (or "PF") cloud in front, the black smoke goes right past it how high nobody knows. That pic really makes the lower sky with cumulus clouds seem like tiny model diarama you can touch all parts of, pic up and turn around...same when you fly around the FB clouds to see the visual feedback. We gotta get flight sim Devs to make towering cumulus clouds going as high as that black smoke tower.

Those who always complain about frame rates when someone asks for smoke or explosive objects in the FMB crack me up.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO USE IT, IT'S FOR THOSE OF US WHO WANT TO ADD IT AND CAN HANDLE IT ON OUR COMPS ON MAPS WE MAKE FOR OURSELVES!

It's a pain in the **** to make a plane crash somewhere to simulate a burning fire. It's just a simple request to the devs.

As for infantry, they are nearly impossible to see unless close and due to violence ratings they will never be added. Although I personally would like adding that too.

I think it would be difficult to model static smoke for the realistic variances that effect how smoke rises. Such atmospheric conditions, wind, humidity, etc.

What I mean is, that smoke doesn't always rise the same way. Weather dictates how it rises.

Although, I will admit, that any static smoke effects at all would be a nice addition.
