Ok guys what is your favorite bomber and why do you like it so much, this could be a dive bomber, level bomber etc, etc.

I always liked the Ju-87 Stuka. Looking for your target through the floor is neat, and it's fun to flip and bomb with. The new Ju-88 is fun too. I'm going to try the Jap D3A later today. It looks pretty cool.

In this sim, it has to be the B-25. It's tough as nails, has a number of 'dead-eye' gunners on board at all times...and can still outroll a jug. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

I don't have Pacific Fighters yet, so I can't speak for the planes in it, but my favorite bomber would have to be the Il-2 Sturmovik Type 3M. The 37mm cannons on it have a lot of ammo and will kill just about anything you aim them at, tanks, vehicles, airplanes, you name it. It carrys a good loadout of bombs and rockets and its pretty tough. It also works well for killing bombers or even fighters although its not that good for dogfighting. It's too slow.

fav right now is a
Heinkel He-111 why looks elegant even if not an airliner it still gives a nice loadout heheheh Sc 2000kg

the Ju-87 why it gets the job done

the B-25 good load out and great gun pack

Mosquito it fast it great for night intruding, nice gun pack

G4m Betty long range stable and good cruise speed

B-29A - very fast up high got excellent range , good load out and excellent defence

B-17G/F durable , Good defence , alright load out

Pe-8 - one weapon the 5000kg bomb

IL2-3M

Coolest looking ground attack plane, you gotta love those NS37's. Handles like a pig, is as fast as a pig and smells like a pig.

Toss up between IL2 and SBD for me. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Why??????????????????????????????????????????

Uh...........................................

The IL2 gets me home in the game.

The SBD is small and fun to dive in. I feel like a duck in it though.

if a REALY want to bomb something, the Ju88A-4 is my choice.

in the ground assault role , well , i prefer the A-20G - knowing the Mosquito FB.Mk.VI has a lot of punch !

B-25, that thing is just cool. A ton of hitting power, tough as nails, and lots of guns. I whish we had a strafer version though. The A-20 is nice too, go in low and fast to wreak havoc on Japanese dispersals is a blast.

The B-25, because I had a model of one when I was a kid. The version with the 75mm (?) cannon.

Probably explains why I like the P-38 so much, too.

It was great mate because I know the two guys who were in our B-25 in real life, so I could connect faces to who I was flying with. Dan was the pilot, a mate of mine from college was the top gunner and I was in the rear gunner compartment. Its so much more real feeling when your flying with people you know.

Yeah that really was a great mission, i think i said it at the time how immersed i was on the bombing run. Get this, as i was looking through the bombsight the 109 that you took out flew under the plane and a had a direct view of the 190 spewing fuel. That made the mission for me! Thats when i thought i was in a real plane during WW2 and i knew i had to get us all out alive. This machine fascinated me, since I first saw it.

Besides that, who ever flew one of Microproses last games, B17II-FlyingFortress, won't forget the immersion of that game. I just wish they had the time to make it multiplayer and working as planned. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif

I still hope we'll see bombers in BoB-Dogfight-Servers, that have the possibility to man the gunner-stations with players. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

B17 will be remade as soon as Shockwave have finished with BOB2. I am also a B172 lover, and cant wait for it to be revamped. Get over to the forum and start giving input like all of us fans are doing, rumor is the new one will have realistic, accurate targets and online coop play for B17 crews http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/inlove.gif

I also have loved the B17 ever since i saw Memphis Belle as a kid, its a beautiful plane. The sooner this sim comes out the better!

So...

A20 - fast, lots of guns - it's fun shooting down those buzzy little Jap fighters with the nose guns - has to be beaten to death with a stick. If it had rockets I would marry it.

Incidentally what's the B-25 with the big gun in the nose - I want a flyable one of those http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

One of my favorites is the Wellington. For some reason I spent hours staring at this picture in an Airfix catalogue when I was a boy. It's etched in my memory...I thought the painting captured something....well, I just don't know. I love this bomber though, it has to be this or the Lancaster (followed by the B17).

I just finished reading Voice From The Stars: A Pathfinders Story by Tom Scotland, DFC, B Sc (Eng). He flew I think 48 missions on Halifaxes, then finished his 62 trip tour with Liberators.

One day his port wing caught on fire. Ordering his crew to bale, he brought the Halifax away from Leeds and down into Devils Glen. The Halifax, and making a long run, stopped with a few metres of think treeline, which would have killed him. After getting helped out, a little boy asked him if he could have the tail of the plane. A bit bewildered, Scotty looked and saw the rear fuselage, from about roundel backwards, and disappeared! It fell off several hundred metres down the trail.

The really satisfying thing is that Scotland went back, when he was much older, and visited a lot of the people who were there on that day. The little boy was now in his 50's, and helped dig up portions of his Halifax from the ground. Unfortunately, the man who gave him shelter in his home for a day had passed away several years earlier.

The Avro Arrow CF-105, a not so well known legend from the 1955-58 era,

http://www.globalaircraft.org/photos/planephotos/cf-105_1.jpg
Even by today's standard it would be at the top, if we exclude the new stealth fighters.

And if you like technical details that should still be top secret, check the index pages for an extraordinary amount of infos...click here (http://www.avroarrow.org/AvroArrow/factualarrow.html)

Its first flight was March 25, 1958. On its third flight, the aircraft was flown supersonically at Mach 1.1. On its seventh flight, it exceeded 1,000 mph while climbing. Four more production aircraft were flown. Eventually, the Arrows would fly to Mach 1.98 (approximately 1,300 mph), although they were never pushed to their performance limit.

Our german friends woud have called it, the munsterlander. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

It flew over the Normandy beachead and the greatest concentration of Allied aircraft completely undetected.

Get this, as i was looking through the bombsight the 109 that you took out flew under the plane and a had a direct view of the 190 spewing fuel. That made the mission for me! Thats when i thought i was in a real plane during WW2 and i knew i had to get us all out alive. (can i have a certificate for martyrdom now http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif)
