You can order your mates to attack the enemy or help you using

'Toggle Comms' set a key for it in the controls.

When you start a campaign, pick the highest rank, then you have some planes under your command.

You an order them using the above command.

For the ultimate in immersion yell, "I'm bailing out!" then stand on your chair and jump off.

That's what I do... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Well there isn't a provision in the game for you to actually say something out loud (e.g. through your speakers) but as Xiolablu3 said you can still give commands if you're the wing leader and ask for help if you're in trouble by using the in-game menu. I believe the default key is TAB. A communication menu will pop up and you can give commands by pressing a number.

However, I use a voice recognition program called Game Commander 2 to automate the process and you can program it to play a sound file when you give a command. Is that what you're looking for?

As for adding a signature the first thing you should do is check out this forum for size limits, etc.: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/6921088204/m/2881034625

To find a picture I recommend using Google to search for images of your favorite plane. Then you can use Paint or another image editing program like Gimp or Photoshop to resize it and add text.

Once you've done that go to www.photobucket.com (http://www.photobucket.com) and open an account (it's free) and upload your picture.

Now you need to edit your UBI profile. At the top of each topic on the left is the word go. Click on that then on personal and then profile. On the right hand side of the screen is View/Edit Complete Profile. Click on that and down at the bottom is where you can put your signature. You need to put the URL of the picture in the space provided. The easiest way to do that is to copy and paste the information from photobucket.

Under each picture in photobucket are three URLs for the picture (using different formats). You want to highlight the URL on the bottom (starts with [IMG) and then copy it. Then paste it into your UBI profile.

Hope that wasn't too confusing...

S!

By the way, mate.

You should change your sig to say

'The Worlds first Jet Fighter'

The Me262 wasnt the first jet ever made, there were others like the Heinkel Jet (was it the He280?)

And the British Gloster Jet. (The one before the Meteor).

Yup. They are in .wav format but I believe they are slightly different than standard .wav files. Windows media player plays 'em fine though.

I think they are in the SAMPLES directory...or maybe the RECORDS directory.

But again, there's no provision for you to respond other than through the communications menu.

Roger that. I'll find the correct directory for you when I get home from work. What version of IL-2 do you have?

No, Game Commander isn't free but it has a free trial to download. You can get it here:

www.gamecommander.com (http://www.gamecommander.com)

I think there are some other similar utilities out there that are free but I have no idea what they are and I'm not sure they'll do what you want...

Not to hijack this thread, but there's some good pictures in the links Major Setback posted there. However I am wondering, is it legal to use other people's aircraft pictures/paintings in your sig without permission? I thought pictures/paintings were copyrighted by the artists? Has anyone ever had someone say "hey, you can't use that picture"?

Crash_Moses
06-14-2007, 05:11 PM
Gotcha...that must be the original IL-2. I think you're out of luck, lad.

However, the latest version is a bargain. It's called 1946. It includes everything from IL-2 Forgotten Battles and Pacific Fighters up to version 4.07 and only one patch to bring it up to 4.08.

I'm not sure where you live but in the U.S.A. you can get it for $20 at Circuit City or $30 anywhere else. I highly recommend grabbing it.

I don't think it's a problem if you don't use the pictures commercially ie. to sell a product or to make money.

You can replace the stock radio transmissions in the game with ones of your own, if you want. Just make a .wav file with the same name, and put it in that folder.

I did a forum search and it seems a lot of people use SHOOT. It looks like it will do what you want and it's free. Getting it working may be a bit involved but I'm sure somebody here could help you with that. In fact, the Community Help forum would be your best bet if you're not technically minded.

Another is VAC. It's only $10 and it will play audio responses to your commands.

I use VAC and made my own phases to talked to my wingman, flight.

Then programed VAC to hit the sequence of keys to make the game activate the commands I was speaking.

IE
I'll speak

Wingman Cover me!

IIRC VAC toggles

tab 2 4

The game sends command and my wingman replies

Roger that! or something simuliar.

ya but i wanna program it to say the same as the ai does

so if my fuel tank is on fire ill press a key and it will say same as german ai does the ich spreling! ich sprig ab! then bail out

just to make game mor efun

Yeh so you tell VAC to do that too, I have my gunner positions talking back to me when I change seats, from Pilot to any gunner, and even bombaidier.

VAC can do everything you want, and its very simple to use.

I don't see how pusing a button and letting the PC do the talking, makes it more real? But to each his own, I feel more involved just using my own voice, to make the commands.

kingkirki49
06-15-2007, 02:22 PM
ok is this program free and has no viruses? ect.

abnd can u tell me how to use it?
if so ill give it a try

T_O_A_D
06-17-2007, 09:12 PM
No as mentioned above it is not free, $10.00 US
after that its fairly simple.

Absolutley virus free too.

I think that would suffice (at least in my case) for an English speaking pilot but I think responding in German or Russian or French where appropriate might lend itself to greater immersion.

The alternative, of course, would be to learn the required phrases in the required language. Although, as I think about it, we sit behind our monitors and pretend we're in the cockpit and I get the sense that maybe...just maybe...having our pilot/avatar respond verbally may do more to put us "in" the game so to speak. I may have to experiment with this...

But another question looms. If one were to forgo the audible feedback route and go to the trouble of memorizing the various phrases used by the communications menu in another language, would the voice recognition software be able to recognize it?

I know Game Commander can be "trained" but would it have to be programmed phonetically in order to work? Hmmm...something else to experiment with.

i see...

i mite go to bank and get a money order 2 morrow or tuesday so i can order the game

I beleive so, because I've found some phrases it just doesn't get, and you have to type the audible voice in phonix, instead of the correct spelling. If not its worth try anyway.
