I have just finished and packaged the full version of "El Alamein".

It includes 3 seperate campaigns for the RAF, the Luftwaffe & the USAAF. It is 34 MB, but it includes GB ranks & awards, desert skins, videos & about 75 unique missions.

The link is in my sig.... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

BTW, if anyone has heard from Extreme_One, maybe they can let him know so I can get this posted on the missions page as well. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Sure it's not corrupted?

Yeah - I tried to download this too - file seemed way too small while downloading and then winzip refused to open it (said it was invalid/corrupted).

Hope you can get this fixed cause it looks great and I'd love to try it out - was hoping Oleg would take the FB theme to the Med next anyway before they announced they were goint to the PTO.

You guys were unfortunately DL'ing right when I uploaded a revised file. Sorry 'bout that. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I found a small error on the 3rd LW mission that caused you to be captured if you crash landed at the target base. It took me about 15 minutes to UL the new .zip file.

It should be OK now. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

It is nice to actually recognize someone who posts replies to all the mission files I post. I hope you enjoy the LW version. The 1st 15 or so missions were made from the JG27 perspective and then I moved over to the RAF side. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

I followed the link in your sig; and while it leads to a download page which lists El Alamein campaigns for USAAF and RAF; it's listed at two files; not one 38mb combined download; and certainly not one for the LW. Am I looking in the right place?

OTOH; I'm now well stuck in to the P40 campaign; lovely piece of work. I don't think I'd have tried the P40 without this; and I'd certainly have missed out on something.

Thanks a lot!

Cool skin....
You fly the P40E for the USAAF.
You fly the KittyhawkI for the RAF in #112 squadron and then the Spit MkVb for the 2nd 1/2 of the campaign.
In the JG27 version, you fly the Bf109F4 and then the G2 for the 2nd half. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Yes. It will fly with either, but you need the combined to fly the USAAF campaign. ( only for the 1st mission for the carrier takeoff. If you do not have PF, you could delete the 1st mission from the file and the campaign.ini and it would work fine.) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

You do know the 57th fighter group flew the "Pink" desert camo on their P40Fs, right?

The skins are nothing special, but they are included in the DL for the sake of simplicity.

Actually they called it "Desert Tan" but it was rumored to have a distinctly pink color. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
The 57th Fighter Group loaded on the aircraft carrier in New England with it already painted on the planes.

BTW, That would be a Tomahawk you have in the desert camo outfit above instead of the Kittyhawk (P40E) I think most of those in North Africa had been shot down by late 1942.

ah first off. I only tried a little of this campaign and decided to quit. But thats mostly due to my lack of patience but some of the flaws I saw:

King Tigers in the intro in....what year, 1942? Not possible.

Also in the intro: 2 stukas turning upside down then crashing.

But those are just minor intro flaws I noticed but the gameplay ones were that:

1. P40's taking off from a carrier? Better off to just air spawn them.

and as I said I only played the first mission and even though it was somewhat fun I'm all for realism. I appreciate your hard work for this but its just not for me.

Just so you know, the 57th fighter group was deployed to North Africa and did fly off the USS Ranger. They actually landed on the Gold Coast of Africa and made a month long cross country hop to Palestine. The story in the intro is the way it really went down. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

This campaign, although not 100% historical, is based on actual events. The dates and locations of missions match the facts if you feel like looking them up. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I agree but after reading a post about what people like to see in offline campaigns a while back, I am following the concensus. It is loosely based on real historical events and has some interesting pieces of history thrown in to make it informative & interesting (I hope) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Hey guy - Downloaded your El Alamein campaign and just finished playing the USAAF campaign. Quite impressive...You did an excellent job of tying everything together and with the merged patch all worked just like it should. Have played a lot of flight sims, even the Microsoft CFS series. This PF+FB+AEP has every one of them beat hands down. You just made it better....

Thanks - Please keep up the good work.

Big thumbs up for "The Blue", I have El Alamein installed waiting for when I finish the former.

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/1072.gif Are you referring to the date palms he forgot to clear (so you can tell where the runway is) or the ones he forgot to plant (because it would have really been an open area with the big rocks cleared away & a few tents)?

huggy87....

I'm glad you like it and appreciate the time. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I started with an hour or 2 reading in the evenings for a month or so, but that doesn't count. Although I could have added more scenery and ground action, figure about 1-2 hours per mission with repeated test flying http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif Then the briefings took about 1/2 hour or so each with matching dates to records and real events. Some were quicker, some longer. Let's multiply that by 75 missions. Add knocking out the videos at about 2 or 3 hours each, packing the .zip file and uploading to the web page and you are about there. I almost forgot about the skins.....those take quite a bit of time as well, even for mediocre ones like mine.

I had not thought about it until now since I started some time in September, but I think that would be 100-125 hours for sure. Maybe more but I really don't know. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

It's sort of a hobby you know. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

And yes, there are alot of good 3rd party campaigns out there. You should look here;

http://www.netwings.org/library/Forgotten_Battles/Missions/

I hope you enjoy the rest of it. Maybe you will find out why I prefer hand written campaigns to DGen or even the other campaign options. They are fun, but they don't seem to have the same character and feel for history to me. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Huggy87,

When you finish El Amamein there's also "The Blue" by the same author which is great fun in **** planes. Lots of interesting/original mission ideas. Edit : WHADDAYAMEAN I can't say C.rap planes!

Most involving I've flown was probably Extreme_One/Poymando's seminal "Battle Over Britain" which is fantastic. If you like the 1939/40 era definitely download that one.

Thanks for the tips gents. When I am done with the el alamein campaigns I will check out those others.

125 hours is a lot of time, but I can see how it is a labor of love. I have done a lot of reading on WW2 engagements. I often find myself wishing that IL2 had a single mission or campaign representing the historical situation about which I just read. Good on you for actually making it happen and then sharing it with others.

@Spinner. I find it humourous that we cannot say c.rap in the forums. Have you noticed in the A-20 every time you score a hit your gunner says "Holy C.rap, great shot". A bit of a double standard.

The coolest part about IL2 for me is that I can read about an actual situation that happened 60 years ago in one of the most significant parts of history and I can sit down for 1/2 an hour and put myself in their flight boots.

I know I don't feel the G's and I didn't really get shot at or have dysentary & malaria, but now I CAN see what they saw. I can try to be as smart and cunning. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif I can see how hard it was with my own eyes and lead my flight to do battle with the mortal foe.

When I was a kid, my father had a friend who stayed at the house with us. He was in Air Force Intelligence durind WWII and served in Europe. One day he told me a story about how he spent some time in a place called Bastogne. He said he sat for a week or so guarding German prisoners in a bombed out church. There were 2 of them and all he had was one of their Lugers. They were surrounded by the enemy and he was scared stiff. They all were.

That was all he would say except that he swore to secrecy and he was just happy to get out alive. That's why the first campaign I did was about the Battle of the Bulge. I saw part of what he saw for the first time. His name was Walt Martin & he passed away about 15 years ago http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

A very biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig thank you bird brain, a lot of work goes into your campaigns , much appreciated http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
My interest in WWII aircraft started in the 50`s when I was a spog making airfix kits then the interest grew and grew, I now have hundreds of referanc e books ranging from camo, piolts notes, biographys and books on the aircraft them selves. So now we have this great sim with people like yourself who can actually put me into the cockpit of historically correct campaigns so that I can get as close as possible to the real thing, with reservatins of course, I don`t actually get killed like so many of the poor b----stards did.

If ever you fancy making a campaign for JG54 from begining to end I will beat a path to your door,my favourite, as they served right from begining to the end, what an immense labour that would be.

Again thanks a lot
