Do you wanna see what we are actually capable of flying with or do you just want some pretty water=3 screens?

LuckyBoy1

Capable of flying would be best, but OwlGuy, I wasn't expecting such an honest answer... you the man!

Give me about half an hour and I'll get some water=1 and water=3 comparison screens posted.

Ok, I'll wait because I understand how it can take men with big feet longer to do some things! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

LMAO Luckyboy! Yes it does take us longer to do things wink wink insert innuendos here.

Anyway, I got some generic shots of what I play on (water=1) and some purty water=3 shots for your for some comparison. Water=3 is playable at 1024x768 res but I refuse to play at that low of a resolution. I run on an AthlonXP @ 2.2 ghz with 1 GB memory and a 6800GT. I think it could be playable with one of the higher AMD64 models that I do not currently possess.
I am apologizing ahead of time to the 56k'ers out there. I feel your pain but a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. Please forgive me. Enjoy LB! (screens taken @ 1600x1200 4xAA 8xAF)

Wow! That sure is pretty! Is it playable?

on a 3Ghz/1Gb/6800GT I never run it at those settings, with a lot of planes the fps gets a beat and in a tight dogfight I rather have consistantly high fps than eye candy, but it sure is pretty when flying solohttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Niiiice screenies http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

I find water=3 just a little unplayable though (like most). I have a 6800GT and find that water=2 is a nice compromise. Has anybody tried it? The reflections are lovely and the fps is as good as if not better than water=1.

I am at work so I can't post screenies, but if none appear by the end of my shift I will post...

You can have water=2 on ATI as well, right? Where do I change this setting?

I run it with high frame rates even on-line.
AMD 64 3800+/2Gb/6800GT OC
If your in large furballs you will need turned off AF to avoid some stutters.

So I guess my prediction of needing a higher end AMD 64 bit chip was correct. I was thinking 3800+ or 4000+ so I was right on the ball. Thanks Chivas.

Yup, your correct. On my measly system water 3 chokes her.

It's good to know you can get good quality out of the nVidia offerings. After all, it's good that we have a choice! It's also good to see people being credible and saying, ok, here's the shot, but this is what you give up to get it.

A little more information on what a high powered AMD FX chip will do for you...

According to Joe at www.magnum-pc.com (http://www.magnum-pc.com) it will help, but water 3.0 is still very much unplayable. Hopefully the next patch may clean up the code to the point where it is a usable option. still, the nVidia screen shots are closer to the quality ATI's best offerings give than I'd ever expect. In fact, the ATI rendering I get is only slightly better.

Good work guys and thanks for the information because it ain't about being nVidia or ATI fanboy, it's about doing what's best for us!
