I see there is a soccer thread going; had a look at it and saw nothing that changed my opinion of it: a boring sport for Europeans that many of us North Americans just don't get. The last few posts I looked at were discussing some cowardly kicking incident. I've always been a hockey man. In that sport they fight like men, face to face and with fists, not kicking like little girly types. What is it with these Latino guys, don't they know how to punch?

Anyhow, with that last provocative sentence, let the flaming begin. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

P.S. I don't want to hear any of those soccer is the best kind of posts. You won't convince me. I'd just like to hear why some folks are so passionate about soccer. As a Canadian, I just don't get it. Maybe somebody could enlighten me?

I'm another Canadian that doesn't quite get it. Although I think the appeal may have something to do with that anyone, no matter how poor can play it. A sport which pretty much requires a ball and not nessesarily anything else. I'm just guessing.

I enjoy watching the games sometimes. Personally though I've always been a person who has difficultly taking interest in a sport unless it in some way involves an engine. I used to work with a fellow that thought the same way and he said "I've finally found someone that thinks like I do" lol. For me is NASCAR or rally racing, drag racing... etc.

As for all other sports I prefer hockey myself. Its very fast paced compared to most, and very manly as stated before.

Rugby is my pet peeve... Can't stand it. I go to my kids junior matches and act like all those other uncontrollable parents, but this is where the real rugby is. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Soccer I don't mind as long as it's european soccer. Our local sides are all but http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif.

American football and baseball I sometimes watch because I don't have a clue what's going on.. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.

Generally I've never watched much TV-Sport, cannot handle the Wannbe/WhenWe commentators. I'm too busy...
Gardening, Taking kids to sports events, Flying my FW190, Sailing my Uboat... a multitude of other stuff.

IMHO TV is over-rated http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

That's what makes rugby so good to watch - it's real aggression with some rules!

We lost a few good posts from this thread when the forum went down. Too bad; but I just can't be bothered to write it all again.

Being a Welshman, rugby is in my blood. It's a great game, the only violence you get to see is on the pitch as punch-up's can spark up out of nothing. The only bright spot for Wales was winning the 6 Nations championship two seasons ago - Hate to say it but it looks like England will be the rising power in the next couple of years as they have some quality youngsters coming through mixed with some experinced players.

But, I have to say American Football has been my main sport for the last 20 or so years, been a loyal fan of the New York Giants for about that time too. The sport is not as popular in the UK now than in the late 1980's early 90's, when the NFL used to send two teams to play in the old Wembley stadium as part of their pre-season matches.
