Yea yea, we all know the debate, NFM helps teach e-management with no uber DIII "spiral climbs of fear" or DVII being like some super plane like those they might have if there is ever a war after the one to end all wars...

Yet AFM does have torque and gunjams and the like, stalling so much better and you can always tell the true aces in the Dr1 or Camel though even though no one else can fly it I rawk!! in the S.E.5a.

However, wonder if this new FM they are talking about is F.i.F. or GW4 like, and just think, I hear soon we'll be able to have 32 on a server and it will be stable!

Though we still need to get that kick function, Die Bedcheck Die!!.....He's such an easy kill http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I think he's talking about Red Baron...

Well, WWI planes online (Fokker DIII, DVII, Sopwith Camel), I think Red Baron was the only one to do that.

NFM=normal flight model? AFM=Advanced FLight ModeL?

I'm going to hazard a guess and say LEB is recounting the old days, and suggesting things pretty much stay the same. We still spend all our time hanging out for enhancements, new goodies and a stable online game. (Just think, one day we'll be able to have 128 players online and it'll be stable, even with a boatload of flak).

It was ahead of its time.

MMP ("Massive Multi-Player") in Red Baron 3D was tons of fun...particularly in the organized "wars" against other squadrons from around the world (literally).

Billfish's squadron...the Lafayette Escadrille...was among the elite. A tough group!

And Billfish, I might add, was one of their best pilots. Not many could beat her in a SPAD or (as she noted above) an SE5a!

That is absolutly true, if you flew the side I was on you felt safe...If against me even safer if no other of my side were near. Confusing?..Not really.

What Burning Beard and the others above speak of was my almost instinctual ability to find the highest concentration of enemy in one place, then almost instantly be low, slow, and out of control amongst them. So essentially, all on my team safe as all the enemy would focus on getting me...the easy kill first before their buddies would, and leave the others alone.

Naturally the guys on my side liked it cause as I was flopping and falling to earth the enemy scrambling to get in the last shot as i helplessly floundered, they made for easy targets.....The enemy naturally feeling safer as I was no threat http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

See, being the worst pilot here did not come naturally for me...It took practice http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif and I got a lot of practice being the worst in RB3d.

Oh well...and the point of this thread? Well, just thought it might draw a few of the old RB3d pilots in that fly here now....So as Junko said above...we could giggle at ourselves and how much the same everything is where ever you are.

Salute

RED BARON 3D still has a better Solo Player campaign than IL-2/FB/PF. If you take the time to install FULL CANVAS JACKET, you get pretty good graphics too.

And if you were lucky enough to buy the first RED BARON, you got an incredible pilot's manual which frankly puts to shame anything seen inside a PC Game box now.

You should re-visit it. The mod community have brought the graphics up to date to match even some modern games.

Check this page for it's new look...

Full Canvas Jacket...I need to order that and try to snag all the patches out, even skins before they're gone...put it all in a CD set...if anything just to have.

Sigh, miss WWI but hard to drag myself from here IL2 containing so much we wanted for so long.

the thing about RB3D was it had a very strong comutatee and because of that things like wars happen . in it's day it was cutting edge.

Salute, Red Baron pilots!

I see the online RB is still active, with another Red Baron World League war about to begin, and a round of War Forces just completed.

Also, although the Glidos wrapper has been around for quite a while now, a better Glide simulator called "dgvoodoo" is also available. (For those not familiar with Red Baron, the graphics were terrible even for their time unless you had a Glide capable card such as a Voodoo. Wrappers have helped to extend the life of Red Baron by providing those same good graphics on newer cards.)

You'll notice, if you follow WW Sensei's link, that Red Baron is, like IL-2, one of the few games that got the colors right. Some of the other sims, WWI sims especially, had - or have - colors that are just too pure and bright. Like IL-2, in Red Baron the immersion is there, it just "feels" right.

And yes, the RB community has always been tops.

Miss the old RB3D, but not the FM flame wars lol. The campaign was the best ever. Only SH3 has a campaign even remotely as good and it still needs work.

But what RB3D needs are more flyable planes.

Pentallion...then you have not been flying JG1's FiF...they had the wierdest planes ever created...was awsome stuff....and fighting FiF with the detuned planes deffinately made you sweat and avoid fights....My favorite war by far, miss it.

Here, this should give you guys a chuckle...
