Photo reccon PR XVI of No.60 Squadron operated from Lentini in Sicily, No544 Squadron equiped with PR IX from San Severo and No. 680 also from San Severo and also Tocra.
Night Fighter II's operated from Malta from July 43 and USAAF NF XXX were operating in Italy by November.

The Italian recce Mossies needed escort later on when they started to get intercepted by Me262's. There were problems getting fighters fast enough to escort them however, apparently they used P38's at first and they could no keep up.

The squadron flying NF IIs from Malta was (AFAIK) 23 squadron, which had previously been flying Bostons and Blenheims over France on night intruder missions.
