I've always thought that ubi forum's residents are not flying in online wars.
Considering that only 3 have replied so far I guess that you don't really care about nice online wars but maybe you care more if RBJ exists and what's his real name!

I bet that if I started a thread with RBJ as a subject there would be a hundred replies within a day http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.

ghost skies is not open or active yet. its new and may start soon. but you cant compare it to active competitions. AOW fightersweeps has been open for 2 years. you need to put all out war in there.

well ghostskies is a way of squadsto offically challenge each other

not really a war as of yet

now we have to real on-going wars , both LW v VVS

VOW & VEF

& VEF is by & away the far superior competition to be engaged in

I would definately have to say that Forgotten Skies is the best online war out there for IL2. The immersion factor is 100%, full real settings on (cept for speedbar http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif), and voice comms an absolute necessity!!

The focus is on team work, getting the mission done, and helping your buddy, and not dying!! It really counts if you die in this war as you lose a bunch of points!! Plus you have to survive for another 15 missions (which also gives ye a bunch of points!!) before you get the HSU Gold Star!!! Tough luck if you die on the 14th mission - start over http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

All squads come check it out and register for the war!!!

http://www.forgottenskies.com/FWPortal/DesktopDefault.aspx

VEF and VOW are fun wars too, but they seem to be more for the guys who like to jump in and shoot stuff down. If you are looking for a war that is all about strategy and mission objectives and real team work, check out Forgotten Skies.

C! See ya in the skies!!

TY for your kind words of encouragement RedDeth. And to correct you, Ghost Skies is most certainly open, and matches have begun. We're just going to be finishing the website and polishing up the rules and features.

You are correct in one aspect. Ghost Skies is not a virtual war. Ghost Skies is a team based competition that is not historically based, so it shouldn't be compared to great online wars such as Forgotten Wars, VEF, and VOW. Those are historical campaign recreations. Ghost Skies is just a way to play the game in competiton with other teams to promote fun and skill! I think you can participate in Ghost Skies AND participate in a virtual war as well! They are nothing alike, so they are mutually beneficial! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I like VEF a lot, but also have high hopes for "Ghost Skies" which will be running full speed pretty soon here. WUAF is registered, and interested! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Ghost Skys is up and running, The reason why the testing is in place (beta runs) is to familiarize people how to use the recording tables provided as it accuratly gives the match scores.
It is anyones choice of the difficulty settings and all squadrons are encouraged to participate.
I have seen many "mock" matches as *Crash is helping other squadrons walk through the sequence of events.
It may sound like rocket science but in reality it is relativly simple.
Again, any mutual difficulty settings are up to the squads and that should hold no bearing of who is wishing to participate.
Should ANYONE willing to participate in the battles please feel free to ask any of the JG27 Squadron for assistance..

Maybe just maybe not all FB players have the resources (hardware or software or bandwidth) or time to get involved. Would you rather have a dozen or two OT posts here, or as it is now with only interested people getting involved in the conversation? I'd love to fly the VOW or VEF, but can't. My ping's are way too high, since I'm in The Land of the Rising Stink, Korea.

Ghost Skies is a team based competition ladder league. Team compete with each other for points for top spot on the ladder. THe score is based on you kills made in a match, settings used, and battle type fought. THere are a variety of different battle types and ways to fight, so the league will never get boring as being the same thing over and over again. VEF, VOW, and FW are historically based campaign wars. You fight as axis or allies, and are restricted within a year and to a single type of aircraft. These leagues are more immersive in the historical aspect of the game. Ghost Skies lets you fly any plane you like no matter who you are, within the battle type confines. Matches are timed, and the winner is determined by highest kill.

FOr more information, visit the Ghost Skies website and click on the rules. We will have the rules available in 7 different languages very soon, including:

English (currently available)
German
French
Spanish
Dutch
Porteguese (Translation in progress)
Russian (Translation in progress)

And I'm hoping to find an Italian translator very soon.

is a kill worth different points in full real vs a non full real match? if so some teams could fly a lot less matches and get many more points than other squads flying with icons on etc????

No. A kill is worth the same amount no matter how you play. When you play with settings above the default levels an additional value is added to the score. But the amount of kills you can gain with the easier settings can offset those values, so it may balance out. I say "may" because not eveyone fights the same. Some like to fight low altitude in a TnB, which means more fighting and more kills, no matter what the settings, and some like to fly high and search for their targets and gain an energy advantage, no matter what the settings. But beyond kills and settings, the biggest factor affecting score is a pilots experience level. The more kills you gain over a lifetime, the more experience you gain. Higher experience positively affects the matches score. In short... it pays to play, and play often.

But score isn't everything. There are two categories of winners. Highest Score and Most Efficient (highest win %) So if your team's fighting strategy doesn't lean well towards earning more point, you may aim to get the highest win percentage. The medals for these categories will be awarded to a squadron and to the individual pilots.
