View Full Version : Excellent work on the new FMs Oleg.

I`m not an aeronautical engineer and I`ve never flown an aircraft, but at last I have some idea what all this stuff I read about `torque` finally means. It`s harder, but not really all that hard once I take a little more care.

There are other bugs (which I`ll mention elsewhere), but please continue to reach new heights of realism.

Thank you.

Oh yes, and thanx for the wonderful clouds. Adds immersion, although I`m sad AI appear to see through them.

But I`m glad that the AI flies more realistically and can`t see behind them up sneaked upon. Not perfect, but very good.

I await 4.01 in anticipation!

And this is only the first release of the new generation FM.

The ground handling of the planes is much better now, none of that low gravity stuff.

AI are much better to fly against.

Clouds are amazing, I like the explosion of a crashing aircraft illuminating the clouds.

I could go on http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

You`ve blown up my Avatar!

Actually it`s reminded me why I picked that screenshot: I was flying along in my Hurri and noticed that my AI wingie was flying really slowly. I checked him out and saw he`d forgotten to raise his undercarriage!

I thought it was so funny that I used it as an Avatar! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

What he's trying to tell you is that this 2,2kB image (see below) does the same job of representing your avatar as your current 37kB image.

Ie. your current avatar is scaled clientside, so everyone has to download the big picture, then the browser rescales it to 64x48px. This process is in my opinion a waste of bandwidth when a properly scaled image does the same job.

Can't wait to give the patch a go by the way!

oh. I didn`t get the hint.http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif Wondered how he managed to get it so big. And this affects EVERYONE? I can only apologise. I`ll see what i can do. Thnx.

It was very nice of you to fix this so fast, but don't you think you overreacted a bit? I mean, you're allowed an avatar of 64x64, so why loose all thoose neat little details when the size (in kB) is almost the same? At 48x36 it looks too washed out if you ask me.

Btw: Feel free to copy the image I posted in my previous post if you want. It's a 64 colour 64x48 .gif image. Gif compression is better than .jpg when you got fewer than 256 colours, besides, it keeps the colours better (take a look at the insignia for an example). You might get better results if you play around a bit, but depends on how much work you want to put into an avatar. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Wondered how he managed to get it so big. And this affects EVERYONE? In most browsers the image would load in fullsize then become rescaled by the builtin javascripting on theese forums once it was finished downloading. So in essence it wasn't a large problem unless you're on a slow connection. What he did was link directly to the image without the script, hence it covered quite a large area.

PS: Sorry for taking your thread off-topic.
