I have been working on a model for a Fairey Swordfish Mk1. The project started as modelling practice for me, but the model has now reached a stage where there are lots of fiddly details to adjust - but before I invest a lot of time into it I have the following questions.

1) Is anyone already producing a model of a Swordfish?

2) Is there any point in getting the model up to scratch for FB? Don't think Swordfish ever made it anywhere near the eastern front. It would only be suitable if we (one day) get a Mediterranean map add on.

3) Does anyone want to see this plane in the game?

Click on this link for some work in progress screenshots

The model isn't finished, particularly around the engine, and I still need to adjust all the struts and wires. I've got a few hundred polygons left to play with.... and of course the cockpit and skin to think about!

Would appreciate any opinions.

AFAIK no one else is working on the swordfish. To my layman's eyes, does she look cool or what!! The more the merrier. Nice work mate, can't wait to get blown out of the sky in this one whilst attacking a pseudo Bismark.

Speaking of which, if you read this thread Fennec, how goes your Tirpitz model?

Also you may like to introduce yourself and your model at www.netwings.org (http://www.netwings.org) and find the FB modellers forum. It was organised by Gibbage and some other modellers to ostensibly house the plane addon developments, now that Il2 center seems to have bitten the dust.

I would like to see it....one of the classics. If there is a Med sim in the future it would be absolutely necessary.
Otherwise the Italian navy would rule the Med......I know, not likely but possible. Night raid on Toranto....if that battle is not possible in a Med sim then forget the sim...

Do it! I think it was used in the mediterrian, and there have been some rumours about implement that warzone in FB.
So go for it!

Swordfish external model is finished and cockpit is on the way if I'm not mistaken.

Go to the netwings forum for th modelers and perhaps you can find a plane to work on that's not already underway. Also the WWI folks still need modelers.

Man, That looks wonderful! How much time did you need to reach this stage? This birdy is awesome! I am no pro, but I can tell something is good, when I see it! This is GOOD! Definitely! I would suggest sending the screens to Gibbage, he is the Man! If you need help, contact him. Keep up the good work!

Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king."

Looks like I'll hold off until I find out for sure on whether this plane has already been done. I'll write that one off as a test project!

I can't get into the netwings IL2 modellers forum at the moment, its private only and my access request hasn't been processed yet (impatient me!). Is there a list of planes being worked on, if so, can someone paste it into the thread? I do remember seeing one on IL2center.com, but that site doesn't seem to be active...

The Stringbag is very cool. It was one of my favourite 3rd party add-on campaigns in CFS2. It would be fantastic in this game, providing you can survive the ship-borne flak..

It's only funny til someone loses an eye....then it's hilarious

They are still implementing the list. Btw,the Gladiator is being worked on and is nearing completion. Once you get the go-ahead, I say go on and do the Swordfish...

Just heard from Gibbage that nobody is doing the swordfish, so I can get on with it. Going away for a week so there'll be no updates on the model until late next weekend.

Any idea if cockpit drawings might be available anywhere? (unlikely I guess!) I've got a stack of photos to work from, but drawings would be good.

Make sure you do the swordfish. Its an excellent plane. I think it would be an excellent model for IL2 FB, and I would love to see it in-game. FYI there are still flying Swordfish around, so if you need cockpit details see if you can track one of them down (if necessary.)
