So what do you think ?

She certainly isn't the same aircraft I spent so many hours in bed with.

She can take a bit of punishment now (thank God) but the new FM is pushing her into the BnZ realm where her guns are hardly best suited.

It's a dilemma. Should I stick with her or move on ? I've never been a big fan of BnZ preferring the knife fight instead but if this relationship is to continue I am going to have to go, at least often, down BnZ Street.

Any F4 fans out there ?

What have been your experiences against other a/c so far ?

Dont feel left out of the mix all the 109 are sluggish to respond and turn like the 190 used to. Then flew a 190a5 to see what it would do and was surprized that it reacted like the 109 except for a nasty habit to want to stall

"Of all my accomplishments I may have achieved during the war, I am proudest of the fact that I never lost a wingman. It was my view that no kill was worth the life of a wingman. . . . Pilots in my unit who lost wingmen on this basis were prohibited from leading a [section]. They were made to fly as wingman, instead."

I am a devout F4 pilot, always flew her, always will. Since the patch the f4 has to be flown more like it was in the pre-Forgotten Battles days. You have to use flaps! I have gotten into scraps with most everything already with the new patch, it doesn't take long, and using combat or take off flaps, nothing has shaken me off their tail yet.

I have a Microsoft precision two. And just like in the old Il2, two of the buttons ready at my left hand are flaps up and flaps down.

The F4 still rocks. I don't fly the newer 109s hardly ever since Forgotten Battles came out and I have shot down everything. p47s, La7s, FW190D. Just have to use some smarts to get it in the right place at the right time.

Ive always used 109s as BnZ, didnt ever really try them as anything else. Funny thing is I never even noticed the change/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

My impression for what its worth. It still can turn very well and even better with rudder, but the days of sustained banked turns with no E bleed are gone in this plane. I just hope the others bleed as well. In a turn stalling occurs around 220kph. THis means yoyos and good energy retention to be effective. Dont give up on her yet.

there is now even less arcade element in Fb post patch

all planes now stall & E bleed worse...

the F4 is also my fav BF & it still is a Knife Fighter....

just the new FM will need adjusting too , also the combat flaps actually do a sizable amount of good now

I doubt that any real life Bf109 pilot was using flaps in combat. Bf109F was excellent dogfihter with turn time 18s (on pair with Yak3), last Bf109 suited well for that kind of fight.

F4 is still a great plane. You simply have to use flaps (combat mostly) as well to keep it from stalling at low speeds, but with a little practise, it turns fine. G2 flies better after the patch and now it is my second favourite plane.
And , yes, flaps ARE used in real dogfight!

Really?

I flew the F4 before the patch in campaigns and I fly them now and I got a bunch more kills with her now!? She's fast as hell and can dive like a stone.

I like the fact that when I shoot off a wing, the plane spirals so fast that the pilot rarely escapes.

More efficient than ramming the chutes. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

The Brewster certainly has improved E after turns in comparison with pre-patch.

Also imo the P-40 doesnt stall as much as it used to.

Still one of the best in your face knife fighters. Just ease up at the slower speeds a bit. Not a problem because it gains the speed back in a flash. I haven't run into the Yak yet that can out turn it. Now P-40's and such are another matter, to many guns to face and it's nose swings rather fast. So some planes you just want to avoid knife fighting with and go back to booming.

Call me crazy but the G-6 is my favorite knife fighter out of all, less elephant gun. Visability is as good as a G-2 and the 13mm guns, Ahhhhhhh!
