View Full Version : Looted some keys, what are they for?

Possible contract spoilers?

Anyway, in the "Hunting the Hunter" contract in Venice (the last one), the bounty hunter sets up a dummy and ambushes you. Well after I killed him, I looted the dummy and it said "Keys (1)". I can't find them in my inventory or any of the other menus.

Anyone have any idea what this means?

yeah same here, maybe its for those blocked off memories or a requirement for a future DLC

i heard all of Leonardo's dummys have keys on them too while your testing you skills in his back area maybe it was something that were going to implement but left out due to time i heard they rushed to make sure game came out sooner so it was in our hands then they were going to change some stuff

I just posted this on the other forums like 10 minutes ago. I'm glad someone else found it.

Yeah, I just finished the last assassination mission and got the keys as well, but as said, they are not in my inventory and there is nothing on the map showing a mission or any interaction. Wonder if the guide says anything about it? Hope someone else knows lol.

Think hard. Perhaps if we collect all the keys in one playthrough we get a cookie http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'm working on a crazy theory but it just might work...*crosses fingers*

All those poor forgotten locks can only be opened with those poor forgotten keys...

I finished giving Maria her feathers and then I was bored, started running around her room and then ran into the cupboard (I think I was pressing circle or something, PS3) and the drawer opened and there were some keys in there...

Any ideas?

I found the keys on the dummy's and have no idea what they are for. I am on 100% completion though, so it can't be another mission, right?

caswallawn_2k7

it is most likely just something left over from a early version of the game, maybe you use to need keys to get in the treasure chests round the cities (would of made them more annoying if you had to find keys) it's probably just something left over in the loot table that they never removed from certain less commonly searched places.

I heard that if you loot the weird doll thing at the end of the game you get a key but I couldn't seem to loot it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

as I have said they are probably nothing more than something left over from a early version of the game, since you only find them in strange places it is most likely the devs just forgot to remove them from these places.

Ok i think I know the answer to this one....I finished the game and went back to do the contracts...got the key and then went back to the Villa...SUPRISE http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif another assassins tomb in the Villla...IDK if it was just because I finished the game or if it was the key, but there is no seal, but memories and several skill tests.....gives you some inside info on how they got to Italy...at the end you will get 4 chests and about 2,000 in coins....Good Luck E1 let me know if you have anymore questions I will work on them for ya

It sounds like we are just chasin our tails. Hopefully Ubi will get off their collective hind quarters and tell us wth these keys are/were for. This lack of input isn't clever; its just lazy.

my my my, i think i know what it's for. If you have been keeping up with the news, i think it has something to do with the 2 missing sequences coming out in Jan and Feb. The battle of forli and Bonfire of the vanities. The key may have something to do with them and it wont show up on inventory because it does not yet have a purpose. So give it time and wait and see.

Are these keys available during normal gameplay? Because I haven't come across any keys. Not even the first time around that I played.

Yeah. There is an assassination contract where you have to

**spoiler**

kill a bounty hunter that is after you. When you get to the site, there is what looks like your target standing next to a fountain but when you go up to it you realise it's a dummy and you get ambushed from behind. After killing all the guards and the bounty hunter then if you loot the dummy, you find the keys.

Maybe, just maybe, Desmond magically gets the keys from the Animus. Similar to the first Harry Potter. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

i doubt it will be important in the dlc, as you dont need to loot the key from the dummy from hunting the hunter and supposedly leonardos dummys but im sure thats impossible as when you assassinate them you spawn back at the begining to do another. anyway my point is there optitional well id say less than optional these keys where found due to curiosity, so wont be important.
most likely keys where put in a while ago and either ubi thought it was a bad idea or they took it out due to lack of time. but they put them in all human variables so people basically and at that time the dummies were classed as these variables, (they are like people they just dont move on their own or make noise, they still act the same when assassinated) but then their code was changed, and after that the keys were removed (for some unknown reason) from the human variables, but the dummies were no longer coded the same therefore were not affected by this removal.

just a theory.

actually the keys arent anything to do with DLC or anything that was taken ou of the game, unfourtunately its not as exciting as that. if u loot a key then from then on in you will simply get more florens when looting chests, its just a badly explaind and mosty redundent feature. but yeh it increases loot amount by about 300fl.

You're sure you're doing it right? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
All you have to do is poison them, and then climb up a wall to a nearby roof. While he's flailing his weapon around just air assassinate him.

Either that or that is one serious bug http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
(Probably best to do it on some guards patrolling)

yeah i know they serve no purpose, but i am curios of what was the initial purpose supposed to be,before they were scrapped(if that is the case). So could you ask the devs ? because if they did't use them in ACB i don't see a reason to keep a scrapped development idea as a secret. Not a big deal after all ,but those kind of things are interesting for true AC fans, like myself http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

I think I nailed it!

It's another "easter egg", and another reference to H. P. Lovecraft stories, the so called "Cthulhu Mythos".

But wait, another? Yeah.

First references to the Cthulhu Mythos, that I remember (probably there are more):

- The giant squid, or better, the sleeping Cthulu in the underwater lake.
That's an obvious reference to anyone familiar to "The Call of Cthulhu". To bad it's really well hidden.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYDpSRONmFI

- This one is not hidden at all: the mysteries of the AC universe are always tied up to "the ones that came before". Well, that's EXACTLY how Lovecraft referred to the demigods creatures that he created.

Both topics above are not new. I explained just for those who never heard about it. So what does this have to do with the keys in the dummies.

My guess: another Lovecraft reference, the Silver Key.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Silver_Key
I did not read this exact story yet, but I'm guessing there's a dummy or a scarecrow anywhere in it.
Also, from the synopsis, we can see that the main character uses the silver key to, "entering a world of dreams", "relive his past".
Any resemblance is mere coincidence? Guess not.

As they say: "Just add Cthulhu". It makes any story better. Now stop gaming and go read some Lovecraft. It's really good. No wonder nearly everything in Batman (and many other stories) is a reference to his stories.
