Im just wondering has anyone else had thier headphone or computer speakers blown out by the ship flak sound?

I recently had a pair of Sony Infrared Cordless Headphones blown out from it, they were $180 us. A couple days ago my cheaper pair of pioneer headphones got blown out from the same sound, my volume isnt even turned halfway up. And today it killed my computer speakers, some cheap *** ones that dont even have a name on them but its pi$$ed me off enough to want to sue.

I think ubisoft/1c should be responsable for this and was wondering if the same thing has happened to people in the community.

I've noticed this happening a couple of times now. I've got some fairly serious speakers [for a computer setup at least - decent yamaha amp and monitor audio reference speakers] hooked up to my machine. Occasionally the sound will start to go all crunchy from being over-amped at the source. I can see how it's the kind of thing that could blow a speaker.

This hasn't happened to me recently, though. Only changes I've made have been to set attentuation to 2, and set the 3d-engine mode and speaker type manually.

If you want to get rid of it entirely you should turn hardware acceleration/extensions off.

Haven't lost any hardware from it, but without question FB's sound is sub-par and riddled with anomolies that can cause your speakers to squawk, hit weird frequencies, and as you've cited, blow.

So, in summation, FB blows? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Any time now UBI, we're waiting.

This massive volume (explosion) spike has happened to me twice since v1.11 and very often the previous patch. I just do not turn up the headphones very high at all. And I don't use my little cambridge speaker set at all with FB, since this spike is bound to happen sooner or later.

And it appears to make no difference whether the EAX is on or off. Spikes just the same. I honestly don't understand how something like this can be so hard to fix... I mean all THREE (!) patches have this problem (to a greater of lesser degree) don't they?

Hahaha I nearly soiled myself first time I got that uber loud explosion, along with the guys I fly with. It hasn't damaged any of our gear so I kind of like it. It sure gets your attention that you are in enemy territory.

I get spikes too with all extensions off. Really sounds bad to my speakers.

Audigy 1.

Pretty appalling it's not fixed.

Sloppy.

Couple of days ago, in my trusty P.11, I was going head-to-head with an AI ace in a P-47. He didn't smoke me, but two .50 cal bullets were such a close call, that they shattered my 21" monitor and buried themselves in the back wall.

Now, where's the complaint form for Ubi's legal department?

Hi

Interesting point you have raised. Oddly enough earlier this week I was on FB, when I noticed that one of my speakers had packed in. Never crossed my mind it could have had anything to do with FB though but it does make me wonder now.

Scared the crap outa me the first time it happened and probably the neighbours too!

I think turning down sound hardware acceleration to standard might have helped as it fixed some serious sssttttuttering with my Audigy2.

But yeah, low volume from now on.

yea the sound is loud and scary but i have quality equipment so no worries.

I thought that the ringing of the ears was supposed to happen when flak goes off.

"I think ubisoft/1c should be responsable for this and was wondering if the same thing has happened to people in the community."

Well, the speaker can only try to reproduce the maximum volume that the sound card will give it. In my opinion, software can't destroy harware like this. It can only happen when it recieves a hardware electrical signal that exceeds it's capabilities.

if you had the volume turned up and got an unexpectedly loud sound, it was because the built in amplifier emmited a signal that exceeded it's own design tolerences.

I have to agree with necrobaron. I have not had this loudness prob with 1.11. But I often adjust my sound settings in game speech, objects volume and master volume to my personal tastes. I also reduce my overall sound volume in Control Panel a notch.

Perhaps if you guys tried this it may improve things?

Try this rig, I got 4 X500 watt (RMS) amps hooked up to a decoder, fed via my SB 5.1, running to 8 speakers and a 14 " sub under my coffee table, all in the basement. My main speakers have 15" woofers and 3 mids and 3 high end drivers, audio file series, grabbed all of this stuff from Pawn shops, seems nobody wants their great 2 channel amps anymore. You should hear the flak on the sub, BOOM, shakes the table, my head, everything. The range of DB coming from the game ranges from 40-120db, very dynamic and loud, the only thing that saves my speakers is the two EQ"s with compressors I have otherwise the breakers would go. The sound is very dynamic and knowing little 5 watt headphones and computers they will easily blow with he range that comes out.

Very interesting post. I have not upgraded FB just yet. After the first mess with the wrong patch, I downloaded it and thought I would wait a bit. This is the kind of feedback I have been looking for. Good informative post!

I've had the same problem. Probably caused damage to the speakers although they are getting old...but nonetheless a suddenly loud BLARING explosion/crackle noise sounded.
