I switched off dud torps for my 'liner quest' but in attacking a convoy outside Halifax, more than half bounced off the targets (TI's & TII's @ range 400 to 500m). Took me 5 torps to sink a T3, with only the 1st and last exploding! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Is there another setting that effects the torpedoes? I think I switched on 'instability' which wasn't on before.

I think the torpedoes doesn't arm until they have travelled ca. 400 meters. Maybe it's further.

But Doug, WHY, OH WHY did you change your sig!? That was half the reason to read your posts!

A dud is a torpedo that, even though perfectly aimed and angled, has a faulty trigger mechanism.

Disabling duds does not mean you're exempt from firing with a reasonable AOB angle. Also, just because you disabled duds, don't expect torepdoes to always go off when hitting the bottom slanted section of the hull, a bad contact angle.

Naa, conditions, including range were good for the shoot, just like I've done dozens of times in my career. With duds disabled there should..... well....... have been no duds. Took me by surprise. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Running with any mods? Maybe one of them messes up dud disabling.

Thats why I shy away from setting deep running torpedos and mag pistols. I get much less duds by running at the default 4m depth, plus I seem to get a lot of mag pistols that dont go off even when set 1m below the keel.
I figure why be fancy, torpedos aren't surgical tools, they are wide spread, blunt force destruction. A torpedo hit a 4m will do more than enough damage. Why play around with reliabilty by trying to do damage 7-10m below surface? If its a C2 or larger, it gets 2 fish...unless its alone in calm waters. In that case, 1 torpedo then a surface attack.

Mmm... no new mods, have 'clear guage' and 'more smoke' only but they've been on for several weeks and not affected my primary career so far. Bit of a mystery, I'll have to go back, check settings and replay that convoy and see if I can figure out why. Thanks.

I also have duds off and I also have torpedoes that doesn't detonate on impact or magnetic.
But that usually comes because the ship changed course or I fired at a to steep of an angle or to close.
If the target is closer then 350 meters I don't even take the trouble to fire because 9 out of 10 fish doesn't explode no matter what pistol setting I use.

Just finished replaying that convoy without any settings changes, all torps exploded, not a single dud. Same or very similar angles and ranges. The T3 was stopped with 1 torp and a 2nd missed and hit a very surprised Coastal behind it. A 3rd blew the T3 out of the water. Much better than last night's 5 torps! Go figure?! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

I always fire magnetic 1m under keel and rarely have dudes even in 1939. Probably works more than 80% of the time
