I think to buy a LCD.
I do not want widescreen.
The size is between 19 " and 22
1)Which is the recommended LCD to fly IL2 and other air sim?
2)Which is recommended response time (ms) to fly in these simulators:
8 ms or 7ms or 6 ms or 5 ms or 4 ms or 3 ms or 2 ms?

I wait advice from all pilots virtuals.

Best Regards!

Pick an LCD that has a response time of 8ms or less... the lower the better, a contrast ratio of 700:1 or higher.. the higher the better. The size is up to you... Since you are not going widescreen then the choices should be less expensive.. so I wouldn't go below a 21"

..it all depends also on you graphics card capabilities .....
I've got a 7600GT, and that's why I bought this Belinea 20', cause its native definition is "only" 1400*1050 which "saves" about 23% pixels to display for the benefit of your GC (compared to a 1600*1200, usually the "normal" native definition of a 20' TFT)
Besides the dots are the same size of a 19', so you can spot far away foes more easily....

My system is not even close to yours .. maybe the video card: Gforce 7800 GS and it's powering 3 Samsung 19" LCDs -- 2 ms (grey to grey) and 2000:1 contrast ratio. No complaints here. Click this link (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/1421064465/p/2)

and scroll down to see the monitors posted in another thread with our beloved IL2 on display. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

More information about the monitor here (http://www.samsung.com/Products/Monitor/LCD_Digital/LS19MEPSFVXAA.asp).

..with such a "puter" you can choose just about any TFT that you can afford, and if I were you I would choose a 1600*1200 20', but not a widescreen, since it would bring you nothing more than a 4/3 (with IL2 I mean)

Actually you get a bigger viewing area with widescreen. There is a thread on this at SimHQ, if you are worried about losing the control panel turn the long side up and down and play that way. You'll have the full control column plus some additional view above.

Using the parameters you've described, let me recommend the Samsung 204B 20.1" TFT. Mine is stunning even if not cutting edge anymore, but with a 5ms response time and 800:1 contrast ratio, it makes this sim look beautiful.

The price is right on them now too. I paid almost 500 clams for mine when I got it a little over a year ago. Now they're almost half that.

Hi TgD Thunderbolt56,

I know 2 types de this TFT: what is your TFT?
1) Samsung 204B / 20.1" / MagicSpeedÂ*™ 5ms
2) Samsung 204B / 20.1" / Ultra Fast 5ms

Though it's a 4:3 screen, my next monitor purchase will definitely be a widescreen. I'm currently looking at the Dell 2407, but even that is hard to justify given the quality of my current monitor.

That is of course your own choice but after couple months with 22" widescreen I don't much reason to not go widescreen. Widesreen is very comfortable in general use and the prices are reasonable nowadays.

The wide screens look great to me, I've been using a samsung syncmaster 226bw since they came out in January and it's soooo nice. 2ms gray to gray response and 3000:1 contrast (not sure what standard they use for that but it's the equivalant of 1000:1 ratios on the rest). I play IL2 in 1024x768 still as it's the only setup where I can see dots, on my old 19" screen that's what I had to use and even with a huge LCD I can't see them in the higher res. But that's an IL2 issue, I also play medieval 2 total war in a much higher res and it looks beautiful!!

I'd highly recommend you look into a nice widescreen, I love mine! But if you still dont want a wide screen it's alright, a high quality LCD will make ALL of your games look great. Not to mention desktop apps will be much better to work with as LCDs are proven to be easier on the eyes. I was a sceptic of that before but I sure believe it now!

I have a Samsung SyncMaster 225BW, it has a bit lower specs than 226BW (5ms vs 3ms etc.) and slightly cheaper too. Il-2 runs fine with 7600GT at 1680x1050 32bit. It's a very nice reasonable priced widescreen.
