Hey, they all pop open, but the pilot pops out 5 seconds later! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I think it is more to do with the later modelled planes had this feature, IE after Pacific Fighters and later planes. It also has to do with which planes you could actually pop the hood in during flight in real life, for example it was not possible in the Focke Wulfs.

Yeah, it was an idea they incorporated into some of the aircraft that were released with Pacific Fighters.

They've never gone back and re-modelled the older aircraft to allow it - or even worked it into the newer ones.

Shame, really.

I believe it was pretty much standard procedure before carrier landing to open the canopy so that you could egress more quickly in case of a water landing.

Well you could but you would lose the hood http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I think the 109 was the same. The canopy could only be ejected, not opened and closed.

Maybe i'm wrong?

Because only in carrier aircraft you can 'stand up'in your seat to get a better forward view, so you can see the end of the carrier?

The P40 is not a carrier aircraft.

This feature was one of the "Hey Oleg how cone we don't have...." things from the IL2 days. It was incorporated into many of the new AC that came in and after PF.

That's because the exhaust fumes would get straight into the pit. Exhaust fumes were and are very dangerous.

Mark Hana died because ot this. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
