Yes! Even if I already found the campaigns really fun to play, and enjoyed them a lot, they were for sure often too difficult.
I.e, I was in Finnish campaign, russian side, first flying a Hurri IIc, but in my last mission, I finally got a La 5 (great deal!). Mission was train bombing with 6 La, but once near the target, I found heavy fighter opposition: 12 Moranes and G50(?)...I flew that mission over and over at least 8 times, always being shot down rather rapidly.
BUT, after the patch, things got really "normal"...Now, I can notice that the La is really superior to the Moranes and G50s, as it should be, and even if my squad got heavy losses (4 out of 6 Las shot down), I managed to stay alive and land at base. It was a pleasure to see how the enemy AI stalled, spinned, etc...How they´re not able anymore to aim at me while inside a cloud, or kee a tight turn at low speed without stalling...yeah! FM have been improved!!!
AAA isn´t as accurate, but sounds in a way I almost sh** in my pants! And of course, the new eye candy thingies, which I appreciate...

You know, I would have paid a 100 bucks for a sim like this one!!!

Just try them Mike...I began to play camapigns when I got a little bit bored of the Online routine...and since then, even with all the bugs, I do really enjoy offline campaigns...I guess that the variety of mission types is what I like most: not just take off, kill ar be killed, respawn and start over again...I got a little bored of that.
And now, with the patch , it´s a whole new experience as I have been able to notice the little time I´ve spent flying since I installed it. Much more close to reality than when the AI was kind of Super Uber...

no..i think i WOULD pay 100 bucks fer this game. although i have a few issuses with the patch(sound problems come to mind) overall its an improvment on the already best combat flght sim to date. i mean the game has infinate replay value. INFINATE!! what is money when it comes to that?

I have just played two missions at the start of the hungarian campaign, and I'm happy. The missions seem to be set up now in such a way that you will probably win, which while not ideal is certainly better than before. The 109F4 performs wonderfully, and I haven't seen a wingman suicide yet!

Before, you would get a bombing mission where your side would get 4 Jabos (like i16 with bombs even) and 4 fighters covering - the target would in that case be protected by about 12 or 16 fighters, at high altitude, not carrying bombs - essentially you could either dump the bombs like the AI and try to win a dogfight, or at least make it home, or you could try to make it to your target and get some 20mm up the backside.

Now you get a decent number of escorts, the enemy CAP is only 4 or 6 or 8 fighters, not 16, and they don't all just troll around at the exact area you are bombing!

Yep, campaigns are finally really playable in a realistic way...no more super uber defended targets with no possibilities of getting out alive...no more ufo ai enemy planes, no more laser targeting AAA, at least from land, I don´t know how the AAA is from ships now...it used to be even more deadly than land based AAA...

Haven`t seen ship AAA yet, but supposed to be milder now. You said AI can`t see thru clouds. Are you sure? I`ve not properly tested this yet,,,

Well, after the patch I started a campaign with a mix of 109 and 190 , Jabo and fighter missions and, guess what, for the first time almost full real settings.
The patch seems to have done wonders for offline campaigners.
Some stupid bugs ruined the whole experience before.
Hopefully I'll feel the same after some more time with it.

I´m pretty sure they can´t see through clouds...Yesterday, I tried to hide in them if I found a bandit at my 6, and before the patch, they used to shoot even through clouds, but not this time: it lost contact with me and when I came out of the cloud, the enemy was turn diving in the opposite direction.

yes yes the patch totally rocks!
wow if they fixed the cloud "bug", that's awesome!!
But if it's true, why wasn't it mentioned in the readme? This bug has been in IL-2 since it first came out and was pinpointed early....

I don't have a connection at home so am stuck with campaigns and QMB mission.

It seems logical to me: if Oleg tweaked the AI making it less accurate in all aspects, that must include visibility or other aspects, I guess. Well, I suppose I still must test it a little bit more, but at least for one time, it worked.

How did get to fly a Hurricane II as "Russian" in the Finish campaign? Only Campaign option I findclose to this is Leningrad and no squad's seeme to be equipped with Hurries. Pls tell, tell...

It really does!

Campaigns have sense now; rookies dont H2H so casualities are much more balanced depending of skill level of the AI. Also veteran and ace AI deflection-shoots quite well! That is great! Offline is really interesting now.

FM is very believable now in many ways and DM feels equal for VVS and Axis nations. CEM matters now much more and works great. And if padlock sky-scanning is also set to shorter distance, then online also is interesting again.

9.5/10 rating (patch really positively surprised me, I was expecting IL2v1.2 -type patch)

YEp It does rocks, and certainly fixxed most of the issues.. however there are still some minor flaws, Which I hope the official 1.1 will fix.. such as P-39 cannon seems bit underpowerfull, scored 3 hits with the cannon and he only lost controls and taileron damaged... And I still have some minor problems with sounds.. like when flying with Stuka,, enabling the Siren sometimes causes soudn volume decrease (very wierd!).. And P-47 roll rate is still a joke..

however.. FW-190 IS ROCK now! You can actually fly this in historical accurasy.. and You can Evade opponents by doing a Split-S! And believe me it worked.. I destroyed a La7, P-39 just online when they were chasing me and I did a Split-S and they flew straight into ground /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif FW-190 is one of the most powerfull A/C in the game now.. Only if we would get that gunsight fixxed.. it would become the best plane to fly..

Patch is great - I am happy /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif Haven't really done enough testing to say about BF-109 yet, but down you can hurt with that MG151/20 too.. which is great too..

the patch does rock

was excellent to see a buffalo knocked into a terminal spin as two of my 20mm rounds smacked into him -- awesome!! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

the sound rocks to - the merlin sounds alot better (realistic? - i don't know) the p47 and he111 all sound alot crisper (mind you all the planes probably do !!) -especially in fly by view.

Sorry I didn't mean to correct you, I knew you probably ment the Leningrad campaign played from the russian side. But what I wanted to know how you got to fly Hurricanes in the campaign(s). I've been trying all sorts of squadrons all around and I havent found anyone using Hurricanes. What am I missing?

Still found the belly gunners in Ju 88's are snipers,
and the He 111 gunners are not far behind.......


If the AI cant see through clouds anymore, than I
guess I can live with the sniper bomber gunner AI

Too many times I would head into clouds, pull a tight turn, and have the enemy still right on my 6
Have to check this out.

And ... YES, I too would pay $100 for this flight sim.
It is THAT good, right there with Falcon 4 SP3 !!!!!!

But what I wanted to know how you got
- to fly Hurricanes in the campaign(s).

Have you ever tried to click on the aircraft
type when starting a campaign ???
I mean when you get to the squadron, and timeframe screen, you can click on the aircraft (for that date) and see
what others you can fly isntead.

You should select the planes you want at each stage of the campaign when you generate it. Each campaign segment has a drop-down list of available planes, and the one you leave hilighted determines when you start.

I feel silly, I knew about choosing the plane to start with, but hadn't thought about checking to see if I can change squadron planes. I'm not squadron commander yet, will probably need one more promotion, then I suppose I can choose the flight plane type. I had heard that you flew for a long time in the Ishak and I have no problem with that, but didn't really think of a new aircraft being able to be chosen. More yet to discover on the I-16 with the patch, of course. I haven't done all that much campaigning in FB, squadron and community activity and all, but I am thinking I want to get back into it more.

Last night I was flying in the Greatergreen server and it really rocked...30 Players in all !!
The P47 felt truly awsome !! Still needs tweaking but it really felt different.. It felt real...

Great job Oleg and testers...

I know its work in progress... but it definitely is progress..
