provide lift in a turn letting u turn faster but at a cost of extra drag and loss of speed and energy. Can also do the same comming out of a dive when climbing if u need height more than speed.

I'm certainly not an expert pilot so hopefully one of the more experienced pilots will chime in and correct me if I'm wrong. As I understand it,combat flaps help to slow down your plane a bit, and also makes it more manueverable in a turn. Hope this helps? I'm sure someone will eventually give you a more detailed explanation to help you out.

They let you turn harder so you can get the bead on that bastard, but I dont use em. Only deploy them if your in a turn fight.

Yes, u also get a lower stallspeed so u can turn sharper. Even takeoff flaps can be used in turnfights, if you have similar planes and the bandit in front of u uses them you´ll notice u can´t follow his turn unless u deploy them too.

The step from takoffflaps to landingflaps is however much bigger, look at the wing when u deploy them and you´ll see. Landingflaps can be dangerous to turn with, better only use them when u want to fly extra slow i.e. make the bandit overshoot. Can improve the low speed level climbing as well, but makes the craft feel like a kite/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif .

Looking at IL2compare it appears that flaps do not help all planes. For the FW190D it lowers best turn speed and gives better turn time, but for FW190A it only lowers best turn speed, but does not help turn time. Which is what I already knew because I fly those planes alot. For some planes it will get your plane to turn at a better rate but with a loss of speed, for other planes it will lose your speed but you will not turn at a better rate.

I've found that combat flaps when deployed on the IL-2 makes for a slightly...very slightly...more stable gun platfrom. Especially when going after ground targets.

The Bf-109E also turns better with combat flaps. The sustained turn time is reduced by 2 seconds.

they are great for bnzing as well gives you the ability to hit a sharper angle of attack

Agreed leadspitter, and they can also prevent you from exceeding the airframe speed limits in a dive

Yes for 1.11, it is not an exact science, but it is accurate for the things it shows afaict.
