thank you !!

right - what is the one thing that is common to all the views (f2,f3,f6,f8 etc )in FB?

yep - thats it - in all of the available views the plane that it is focused on is right in the middle of the screen - bang dead centre. - all the time
now, i remember along time ago (whilst viewing in f2 view) i observed that the planes didn't quite seem to fly just right - that now and again something seemed wrong - but i couldn't put my finger on it.

Then about 2 months ago, whilst i was "viewing" a wingman - i looked across to my plane - and then i kind of twigged - watching my plane from the viewpoint of another plane, my plane flew in a much, much more realistic way, bobbing about and making small movements. - i realised this is probably due to the way we are used to seeing planes in films etc - always the camera is in a position (usually in another plane) that is independent of the viewed object - with the result that every small movement of the plane can be seen and - when this is recreated in FB IMO it makes it look so much better.

now alot of the time i watch my plane via my wingmans f2 view although i have to move the mouse about all the time to keep my plane in view - and also my wingman is not always flying next to me.

So by now you can see my idea for a new additional view -it is basically as if there was a wingman next to you all the time (that you cannot see) - so all your planes movements are noticable - and the plane is not "glued" to the dead centre of the screen.

apparently others say that other sims have had similar views see this thread for my posting in GD

(n.b. i had another idea for a view - basically a f3 (fly-by) view where the view point is from the ground - as if you were someone stood - watching the planes fly by -but i like my other one better /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif )

http://forums.ubi.com/messages/message_view-topic.asp?name=us_il2sturmovik_gd&id=zaupj

Anyones opinions on this ? (please reply / bump if you think this idea is OK /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

thank you

The views may suffer some improvements.

-> Instead of being fixed from the viewed object (ex: F2) it could be as if the camera was flying in formation with it thus showing the subtle movements of the object and giving the feeling of fluidity (as is real flight).

It could have some lag just like any wingman has when flying formation.

This way there is no need for another view: this can be true for all views, even moving ground objects.

-> The change in azimuth and range (with mouse) could have some inertia, especially when coming from stop and when coming to a stop.

-> The external padlock view could have some or more (I don't know if it has some already) line of sight axis 'disalignment' from the two aircraft so that the farther one isn't overlaped and consequently not seen, as is most of the time.

-> It could be implemeted a new view just like the one that Flight Unlimited had (yes, the good old first DOS FU) that cycled between lots of views (inside, outside, chase, fly-by, diferent zooms, circlings, ground track, etc...) just like a movie or replay in a TV transmitted football (european) match. This would be a great view for track playback.

Just some thoughts!

I'd like a proper "chase" camera -- where the camera maintains its orientation at some distance behind the plane, but with a bit of a lag. In other words, "up" for the chase camera is always aligned with the cockpit...

If this view is also buffeted by turbulence, etc., then, it really gives one a sense of flight....

I think CFS3 may have this (but don't recall since FB displaced it from my hard-drive), but the best implementation I've seen was in the old "chuck yeager's air combat".

you are refering to whats called an "Indipendant Static Camera".

as oppossed to a normal "Object View Camera".

An OVC is locked onto the object as to where the Indipendant dose not. we see this in the F3 view.

I don't know how Il2 views are constructed so I cant comment on weither it can be done or not. But in most games the ISC is run by AI with limited tolerance.

I prefer the ICS, or floating camera myself.

If you want to do this:

Shift F2 until you get your wingman
Shift F6 until your window is centered on you from your wingman's POV

i was wondering if someone would bring this up

doing this still holds the second aircraft in a fixed point - therefore any small movements are not picked up on - the camera still moves to accomadate any movements the second aircraft makes, thefore negating the "independent camera" effect that is trying to be achieved

This would add some nice aerobatic feelings. but would it be used that much???

I only really use the first person (cockpit) view.

I only use the outside view when I'm bored flying to the target in SP.

It would be a great view for movies and for enjoying track replays or for taking it easy and watching others fly. You might not use it a lot but trust me many of us will :-)
