Yak aircraft feature prominantly in IL-2 games, and in WW2.
Recently I got to see a real Yak-3 flying at an airshow. Although it was converted to Yak-3 from a Yak-11 and is powered by an Allison V12 engine it was great to see, and put on a good display.
I have posted a couple of video clips on Youtube for anyone interested.

If the links don't work or can not be copied and pasted to the address bar, try going to www.youtube.com (http://www.youtube.com) and searching for: Omaka airshow. Some good clips there of other aircraft as well.

Actually there are brand-spanking new Yak-3's being produced in Russia using some of the original tooling and plans but with Allison engines and new avionics. Last time I checked they were selling for about $350,000 USD.

I'll pull the link if anyone's interested.

Thanks for that, I had heard rumours to that affect.
Good on the Russians for producing these. They also produced 5 or 6 brand new I-16's a few years ago for Tim Wallis in New Zealand.

Still good to see the old planes flying in real life, not just on film.

Those are actually restorations, or these (http://www.nzfpm.co.nz/article.asp?id=i16) are at any rate...

And oh yeah, thanks for the clips. Mint stuff http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Thank you, you are correct.
I did hear they were made using original molds etc, I obviously got the wrong idea.
