Whoever it's by, it's the German version. I found it on a compilation CD on Amazon.de a couple of weeks ago, but I just looked again and I don't see it.

Marlene Deitrich's recording of 'Lily Marlene' would be an authentic and atmospheric piece of music to have played on the old gramaphone whilst sailing out from port.

'A long way to Tipperary' Hhmmm well seeing as Tipperary is in Ireland and Ireland was neutral in WWII I suppose that it would be a long way !

To answer your question about the Das Boot soundtrack, no it doesn't have Tipperary. However, it has just about every other piece of music you hear that is not being played by the record player.
