View Full Version : Are Dynamic Campaigns worth playing?

I see that IL2 1946 has many different Dynamic campaigns. My question is, do they ever end? Do the lines, or front lines ever move forward or backward as you progress? Do you ever get the option to fly or upgrade to new aircraft as time goes on?

For example, when playing eather the p39 or p40 campaigns, it always seems to be the same missions over and over again for the most part. I'm eather being attacked from the North east, North West, the south etc etc.

Do the mission variety's ever really change? or should i expect to keep seeing the same sort of missions 20 sorties later. Do you guys feel as if they're rewarding and worth playing?

And i guess lastly, when do they end, as i notice you fly a sortie every day, and the furthest i've gone so far is with the IL2 1941 field mod for about 17 missions, and despite destroying so many ground targets, and assisting in so many battles, the front lines never seem to move, as i at least hope to look at the map after a mission, and see that we've pushed the enemy back, or move to a new airfield closer to the action.

if anyone can help me here I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Not sure if this post went through or not.

The front lines do move during a campaign, and once the campaign has moved away from the particular map you're flying on, you'll move on to a new map.

If you want to move things along a little, in the config file there's an option (sorry, can't remember where at the moment) to set the campaign length so you get fewer missions per campaign.

I found USMC fighter campaign the best of all dynamic campaigns...
And I played like 15 of them or so... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

No.1 worst campaign IMO is IJA fighter, constant same type boring missions one after another in a underdog plane. Not recommendable.

There are also community member made mission generators with different options or capabilities like:

Lowengrin's DCG (http://www.lowengrin.com/news.php)

and

the Uber Quick Mission Generator (http://mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads&file=details&id=367)

And loads of tools to help with joystick, etc, and missions hosted at sites like Mission4Today (http://mission4today.com/index.php?name=downloads)

Much more is laid out in the Nugget's Guide Thread stickied near the top of this forum.

Could be nice http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif .
However I dislike the fact that if you go vs AAA in IL-2 in a plane such is Bf-109 you will die a lot... I finished the Bf-110 campaign and that wasn't exactly a piece of cake... sometimes marauding VVS fighters stalk you, sometimes you live thru all just to be PK'ed by AA. I really hate it.

On the other hand in fast & tough fighter like F4U equipped with some of the best anti-AAA stuff all-around, such are HVAR's and TinyTims, you alone (1 aircraft) can more or less safely wipe out the whole airfield crowded with as much as 6 low caliber AA (most dangerous 20mm's). In group it is easier http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif .

I just wish they come up with some nice MOD which will degrade accuracy of the low caliber flak. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

I just haven't found the way to manipulate with DCG in a way I can with DGen.

No.1 problem with DCG for me was switching maps... I was more or less regularly stuck on one (first) campaign map for well over 50 missions.
TBH I don't recall that I ever switched a map in Lowengrin DCG campaigns http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif .
I disliked that.

And that's too bad because, literally there is no way DGen can come near DCG quality of missions. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

It's probably worth writing to Paul or posting on the forum there about.
Maybe he could make one campaign able to link to another, that shouldn't require structural changes to the gen itself.

Just posted the question.
I would really like to get this solved as DCG is really a great util.
