As an historical note, actual WWII guncam film Very very Rarely showed the gunsight reticle, as the camera did Not 'shoot' through the gunsight...rather, cameras were usually in the wing or nose of the aircraft.

Hey guys, nice sledgehammers! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Fliegeroffizier, it seems to me that the second clip was not shot from K4.

It can be clearly seen that plane had two wing 30mm cannons, probably Mk108s (can be seen with first pair of tracers). But then, towards the end of a clip, also a "spiral" Mg151 tracer appears. Where does it come from, as K4 does not carry that weapon (because it uses Mk108 pods instead)?

Very observant! Unfortunately, I can't recall as that clip was made quite some time ago....I may have mislabelled the file/gif at that time.

Fliegeroffizier, that first one with the mig is so real it's incredible. Do tell, what kind of filtering are you applying? Just like the real thing, it's so grainy I have a hard time even saying for sure it's a mig but that's the plane that comes to mind.

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif Congrats! You win the mystery prize! That clip IS real footage. I slipped it in to see who was paying Very Close attention! According to my notes, it was identified as being an LA5.

The giveaway is the "squiggle" tracers...in much(but not all) real guncam footage, tracers often appear to 'squiggle' due to camera movement/shaking. [[Hopefully this comment will not re-ignite the recurring argument by folks over whether or not tracers themselves actually "squiggled" in real life..that subject has been beaten to death many times on the various forums.]] http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

I'm sorry, guys. I didn't realize this topic was still up. I thought it went down as soon as I made it.

For those asking how I made MY .gif's, I used jGuncam (Java Guncam. A quick google search or search of the forums should get you results). To animate, I use a little free program called Animator 9. It's not very good, but it's free. (Why my animations are so jerky compared to alot of the others here.)

My way is a bit more complex:

Fly your mission. Make your attacks on target acft. Make quick recording(*.ntrk)when you do so.

Play your *.ntrks of your attacks at 1/4 speed. Use the "No-cockpit, No gunsight" view option

Record using FRAPS set for 15FPS.

Run the Fraps output *.avi file through VirtualDub, using filters therein to greyscale, blur, etc. Compress using DivXcodec to reduce file size.

Open the Virtual Dub output *.AVI file in JASC PaintShopPro Animation Application. Apply various effects filters such as "camera shake", "scratches", "gaussian blur" etc...

Adjust frame rate to make slow motion effect in frame rate.

Save final product as a Gif file in 127 or 63 color format(greyscale). Animated gifs can become verylarge...I alwways shoot for a final Gif file size of less than 500Kb for posting on forums such as this.

FRAPS, Virtualdub are free applications. PaintshopPro is Not free(Any animation program can be used in its stead).

Fliegeroffizier is that clip from CFS2? Jeez, very cool stuff. Very nice effects (A6M on fire..)

AirborneCoyote you have done everything right basically. If you 'lose' gunsight (just toggle between pit-gunsight-free screen) it would be better IMO. And maybe you can set a little lower time delay between pics.(so movie will be 'faster').

I have used jguncam and Easy GIF animator (not free but it is trial program).

Be aware that MSU Old Cinema is not compatible with VirtualDub 1.6.x and higher. You'll get errors when you try and run a dub with the filter applied.

It runs fine for me on 1.5.10.18160 but earlier releases have had problems too.

Get older versions here (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=9649)
