I have received my TrackIR and I wonder why I did not get it earlier. It is a great piece of flight sim hardware, should be in the list of any avid computer flight sim gamer. It is not a wonder device but it definitelly makes a difference in your simulator. I have been flying sims since 1985 and consider myself a moderate combat fighter, not an ace like RBJ but getting there. Without TrackIR I used to get my kills once in a while but with TrackIR it really tilts the table on my favor! It is much more realistic on how you track your enemy, it does give vertigo to those whom are not experienced with this device so it takes practice but it is not as hard as the first time anyone of use started to use the HAT switch on a HOTAS. Right now I'm making my final adjustments to my liking. This device is expensive but if you do have the cash and already have a HOTAS then get this device.

Your such a looser! Getting a cruch like Track IR, You should be banned!

OOOOPS?

Wrong topic I got one too!

Its been the best thing Short the game for immersion of it all. Hey I loaded WW2 fighters and it works in their too. although you have to assign a button for center through the game it looses track a bit. To think if we'd f had this hardware years ago.

Yah yah, another one joins our ranks. No point telling folks how much it enhances realism since most of these geeks are afraid of realism and like to fly no-cockpit and pretend their playing "Air Quake" /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Isn't it true that you can look directly backwards in the cockpit with TrackIR while those without TrackIR are restricted from looking directly backwards? If so, that's kind of unfair.

It's true that a TrackIR driver was released that allowed this. The new driver restricts the view.
There was no advantage to looking straight back as all you could see was the seat. You could read the warning on the FW190 seat that you were looking the wrong direction, though.

S! to all fellow pilots!!!

Hello JG5_UnKle,

Thanks! This tool is sooo great that it feels like I am flying a new simulator all together, I am back to basics. I set my TrackIR by following some settings that I found at the NaturalPoint IL2 forum, do you have yours that you could share? It is appreciated!

Hello Bun-Bun1953,

Funny thing you mentioned about being tempted to use padlock, so far had not done so, this is so much more realistic and much much better in tracking and shooting down the enemy but I do admit that from years of using the hat switch my thumb automatically wants to use it naturaly! So I went ahead and re-mapped the hat switch to do my zoom in and out.

One thing I do ask, I have the original MS FFB stick and run Win XP PRO SP1 that does not support the MS FFB software to map keys so I used the one in IL2:FB, my question is how to map F12 (TrackIR) centering key to my MSFFB in IL2:FB ? any suggestions?

Thanks to all of your comments!

Dude, you should only need to hit your f12 ONCE to center your view when you first load up FB and jump into the cockpit! If you find you're having to re-center all the time you might want to double-check that you're in Enhanced mode because it seems like you're not.

It's a waste of a button! The only other thing that would make you lose center is if you're chair rolls all around your room. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I can play for a while, get up for a beer, take a leak, and return to my seat without losing proper center! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Just also make sure that you are not getting a yellow or red bounding box around the dot on your tracking screen in the driver. It takes a bit of tweaking but you want to get the fullest sweep of the dot side to side, and up/down without it going yellow or red. If not you'll get annoying pauses while looking out your cockpit.

Having a cluster of dots on a cylindrical surface helps the receiver track the dot when your head is at the most extreme angles. Mounting this on a "boom" off the brim of a baseball cap brings it closer to the receiver and hence gives you more accuracy and less need to speed it up, for a smoother pan.

umm....interesting notes you bring up. I wear glasses and do see the IR reflect off it but the reflective dot is always in a green box. I also do sit on a 'office' type chair with wheels and it moves a bit when I get into hairy dogfights. As far as I can tell I do run in Enhanced mode if not then I should not be able to pan around inside the cockpit, correct?

I am working in getting the best way to setup my reflector dot and working for the smoothest panning by tweaking the TrackIR interface. Your observations will be studied and tried and I thank you for that.

S! NTESLA

The easiest way to know if your in enhanced is to get in game then hit f8 it should throw your view off and around when it goes into enhanced then hit f12 or whatever you have remampped it to mine is f11 because if I remmber right f12 conflicted with game but don't remeber what it was. I want say quick save but may be wrong. For the other guy above I posted this thread on the view awhile back.

Hi NTESLA

This is my TrackIR setup file. You can download it here http://homepage.ntlworld.com/victoria.stevens/fb.zip /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

It is still a little rough around the edges as I keep altering it a bit. I have a deadzone set which helps to keep still whilst aiming. You might need to re-Map a few keys if you have a HOTAS as I use slightly different keyboard setups. Take a look and you will see.

Just copy this file into your TrackIR folder and you should be able to use it right away - hope it is of some use /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
