Hello!

For Christmas, I got this:
http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n126/GoldenEagle8/PICT0086.jpg

And just last night I started on it. So far I have the hull and main decks completed:

http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n126/GoldenEagle8/PICT0085-1.jpg

I intend to put the guns on and the decks onto the hull today. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Should I continue with this thread? or no?

A tip : You should use tape stripes when painting lines.

This way you make sure that they are straight and that no paint gets where it should'nt go.

Afterwards you just need to remove them. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Very nice model. I've built two different scales of the USS Arizona. I've still got the one you are building now, but it got a little beaten up in a move. I'd like to see how yours comes out. I didn't paint mine. She was such a grand ship, with a terrible ending.

The actress, Gloria Stuart, who played the old woman, Rose DeWitt Bukater who survived the sinking of the Titanic in that most recent film, was interviewed about the USS Arizona. She was in the film "Here Comes The Navy" in 1934, playing Dorothy "Dot" Martin across from none other than James Cagney, and a lot of the film was done on the USS Arizona. They used a lot of the crew, and the scenes on board showed the USS Arizona during peacetime. Stuart and the cast got to socialize with the crew during the filming. When the ship was sunk, it hit her particularly hard, because she said she remembered the guys, how nice they were to her, and she could put faces to the list of the dead.

Yes, keep up the thread so we can see how your model turns out.

Of course! There are other model builders amongst the community here and it's interesting to non modellers to see how the build develops! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I did use tape, but I don't have any good black paint for the black line above the red, so I used a permanent marker. That, and, the marker is easier to deal with than a paint brush, and paint.

That, and my camera is out of focus, so it looks worse than it really is. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/1072.gif

Well, currently, the glue is drying on the hull and deck, I use these clams to keep it all together while it dries.

The cool part, I think, is that the turrets actually turn, and the guns can elevate! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Well, I added some paint to the details on deck here and there:

http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n126/GoldenEagle8/PICT0092-1.jpg

Added the airplane catapults, crane, and flag staff to the aft area:
http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n126/GoldenEagle8/PICT0091-1.jpg

Started work on the aft tower:
http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n126/GoldenEagle8/PICT0090-1.jpg

And the forward superstructure:

I still need some Navy Blue Paint, and some Silver. But will get that some other time.

So far, So good. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Good thread buddy, keep us posted on the progress. I have two second cousins who were on the Arizona, still there, still sleeping soundly.

Here is another update http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The paint I used on the hull originally, well, it just sucked. So I got some new red and repainted the Hull:
http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n126/GoldenEagle8/PICT0090-2.jpg

I got the Navy Blue Paint that I also needed and was able to finish the superstructure!:
http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n126/GoldenEagle8/PICT0092-2.jpg

And this is everything I have so far in one piece!:
http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n126/GoldenEagle8/PICT0096-1.jpg

All I need to do now it attach the Aft tower, and assemble the propellers:
http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n126/GoldenEagle8/PICT0097.jpg

Then I will need to add the decals and the rigging, and the flags, and I will be done!!

I attached the Aft tower, the propellers, various small other hull and ship details (the searchlights, and stairs on the aft hull, the boat booms, decals, and rigging, and the radio wires.)

And ta da!
