View Full Version : Settlers 7 - Sales

I was just wondering if anyone has seen any figures? Have this game been good to BlueByte so far? If so, do you think we'll see more Settlers-games like this one, and with Bruce Shelley?

The series has been changing so much over the years and I personally think this is the best game since Settlers 2. I know Settlers 6 didn't do so well with the critics, but did it sell well?

If nobody knows, and if nobody from BB will comment, please, speculate. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/typing.gif

I have not seen any figures myself, but I imagine it has done fairly well. I think since Settlers 5, which was probably the worst of all the settler games, they have been progressively improving the series so that it is a little more remeniscint of the earlier games in the series that everyone liked. I can only imagine though how much Ubisoft's DRM has hurt its potential sales.

The DRM even hurt the reviews. I've seen several reviewers stating the DRM as a reason for giving the game a lower value then it probably deserves. And, still, the reviews have been great.I've seen the demo on several top download-lists (Gamershell springs to mind).

I never played Settlers 5, but i hear it was painfull. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif
Has the BB-team changed alot over the years? I didn't even like Settlers III. Why "fix" something that wasn't broken (Settlers II)?

It would be fun to know what the BB-guys think of the DRM. If they felt good about it to begin with. Maybe they still feel good about it? Could the DRM have resulted in more sales, or are we all shure it's been a tragedy for everyone?

Edit: The IGN-review is a complete mess, by the way.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

I have played Settlers 2 10th anniversary edition demo, and I own Settlers 2, Settlers 3, Settlers 5, Settlers 6 and Settlers 7. I actually really liked Settlers 3, that was my introduction to the Settlers games. Settlers 4 is, for all intents and purposes, just an expansion of 3 since everything is almost identical but its a new story.

The thing with Settlers 5 is that, although its really not that bad of a game, it just had very little in common with all the settlers games prior to it. So had it been given a different name then it probably wouldn't have been such a disappointment for people who were looking for a settlers sequal. Settlers 6 is diffinitly an improvement I think, but it still wasn't much like the settler games in the past. But after Settlers 5 that probably wasn't as much of a dissapointment for people.

I see. My introduction to the Series was actually Settlers I, and i still play that game regulary. I also bought Settlers II Gold and absolutely loved it. More recently i couldn't help but get Settlers II 10th when it came out and i was very pleased with what BB had done with it.

I have felt that BB went into some kind of "dark ages" after Incubation (which was brilliant), but perhaps i should give Settlers III-IV another chance.

I simply hope it sells well, because the developers have done an amazing job. I bought the collector's edition and thinking of buying it a second time for a friend just to increase the sales as much as possible.

Abuion, your nick reminds me; Albion was freakin' awesome! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
And so were the Battle Isle games.
If we assume Settlers 7 has made a good profit could this in any way contribute to giving BB more of a say in which games to make (that is assuming they are being forced to pump out settlers-games)? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

I seem to remember UBI releasing a statement when they bought BB saying that BB would from now on focus on their most succesfull gameseries ONLY.
