IBTL.......

We've all heard it here and on HL....."I don't want to buy 4.05 because NOW they're not free I don't want the plane...or 1c was TOO generous in the past so now a whiney primadonna that needs my patches for free because I got so much free before....or..."I" still had issues with 4.04 so 4.05 should be free...or...It's splitting the community (i'm getting left behind) because I don't want to pay"........

On & On & On & On & On & On & On & On & On & On & On & On & On & On & On & On & On & On & On & On & On & On & On & On & On & On & On & On & On & On.........................

Those of you that paid for it good for you...thanks for being a responsible adult saying "I pay the piper to sing my tune".........Those that didn't?....Well you all know my take on thieves...A thief is always also a liar and coward...That simple, can't justify it as this sim doesn't feed the kids....

So now comes 4.06.........and many of you will be tempted to "give away" 4.05 as it's an old add-on..............

Don't...........We paid for it, we did what's right if we want to advance, we did what was right to get something we ALL (don't bs me) begged for, and we did what was just considering how much we have gotten FOR FREE!!!!

Just a reminder exluding anything but planes;

May get me banned........Yet F*CK these cheapskate thieves....They are a blight to this sim, and all honest people hold true....DO NOT hand off 4.05.

Feck them bassids.......No excuse acceptable...and help them, and you joined them......Let me know if you support "them" so I will not be associated with thieves.

Waiting and stealing two very different things.....Though I'm doubting your success, I'll not question your reason as long as it is not griped about like so many do...What kills me are the whiners that justify being thieves.

P.S....look at the free planes we got....That alone would blow away AEP or PF.....More so planes SO MANY begged for........No excuse for stealing cuts it after all that...Oh forgot, except 1.........Punk.

I too in not always having given credit where credit is due be it a pic or whatever......Some yes others no yet we learn and as one can see in my most recent posts on the Ki-61, serious effort is made in marking over scanned pics with the originator and ISBN#...........Yet I make an effort and apply what I learn, not that the old ways were ok.

In contrast there are those that think it's clever to steal, and those that don't are fools. My hopes by this post to help honest folks stay honest.....Think twice before doing a favor to be nice and helpful......

In the end, that being helpful hurts us all when 1c has to say........"we can no longer afford to do flight sims".....Oleg, you're fired.

That's the fact of the matter in the end....This a razors edge business already.

I think it deserves to be added that even if you get your hands on a friend's 4.05, you can do the right thing by buying a licence immediately when you installed and tested it.

By the way, thieves remain thieves in all aspects of life, and also raise their children as thieves, and guess who will be the first one they rob...their parents http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Spot on Ms. Billfish.

Just bought the thing myself last weekend. There was a chance of... erm... "trying it out beforehand" http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif as well, but I canned that possibility after thinking about things for a while.

Thing is, I didn't fly in IL-2 for a couple of months prior to the Peshka at all, because frankly speaking I did get a bit bored of all this gun-slinging. So what I did was I flew in FS2004 instead - which was just great for a change - and I _did_ admittedly ponder over a possibility of trying it out a bit first, and then buying it later if I felt like playing the air war again... but you know how these things go: "hey, I've flown it for a month now... should pay for it... naaah, money's too tight to mention ATM... I'll buy and D/L me own next month..."

Except that next month isn't any different, is it?

So yeah, I ended up buying the thing with my wife's credit card http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Now everyone's happy but the missus, but hey, who cares about her http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

(Well I do, as a matter of fact. So I took her out for a compensatory & conciliatory meal-and-drink, and that was the case settled...)

What struck me with this sim was that oleg himself spoke and chatted with his customers (in the old days) and tried to fix errors and try to improve the sim, and update it as soon as possible.
I'd never heard of such things before.

This alone makes me buy every add-on to support and spur this kind of positive behavior.
There ofcourse have been problems on the way, but then there are always problems in life and the issues here are quite complicated at times, so if I can help and support Oleg and team a bit so they are able, and above all, wants to continue to fix this old sim, it's a small price to pay to buy the add-ons.
I'm a fairly cash-free dude and if I can buy add-ons, anyone can.

I ask myself if there is anything better to support out there? For me the answer is no.

I belive that If we won't buy the add-ons, Olegs bosses will force him to stop working on this sim to concentrate only on BoB.

Well what I think. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

No wories.
English language is hard for us non-english but I think it's about letting off some steam ('setting the foot down', I think the americans say) and ,in atleast spirit, fight for the survival of this sim.
Forums are excellent places for this kind of material.

I never paid for 4.05.

Then again, I don't have 4.05.

Shoddy Russian flying coffins never interested me, and I don't feel a sense of obligation to Oleg to go out and blindly buy all of his products for no reason. Maybe if I shat money into a bucket, but I'm finding money harder and harder to come by these days, so I can't afford to spend it in such a carefree manner.

This forum is sweet, though.

I think that perhaps the situation is not so black and white as you make it out to be, certainly people who pirate have no right to the new content but some of the excuses you mention are legitimite issues with the paid addon scheme.

it also seems that you are condemning others points of view unfairly, does the fact that you can afford to pay for the new content make your opinion more valid? perhaps the cost of new content is not so trivial to some as it is to others? and enjoying free content doesn't make you a thief. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif (basically i disagree with lumping the pirates and people who are moaning about the paid addon scheme into one group)

I think the concern that the community is being divided by the paid addons is legitimate, not everybody can afford to keep buying addons in the long term. Nor is it possible to buy only the content which you are interested in while remaining compatible to play the game online.

I am just a begginer in Il-2, I got the complete edition from a store here in NZ for NZD$60 and now im becoming hooked. The pe-2 addon isnt very attractive to me at this point since I don't even know how to fly bombers yet, and it'd cost me about NZD$28 to download the addon just so I can have these extra planes which I'm not likely to use at the moment (and to play on 4.05m servers online). I think the total cost for all of the 3 planned addons will be around NZD$85, which is $25 more than I paid for the complete edition set and a bit hard for me to justify. Cost once currency has been converted doesn't help much, but I guess that is just how it is for many gamers around the world.

The fact that these paid addons break the compatibility between the retail (or freely patched) version of the game and current up to date servers is somewhat of a nuisance. Fortunately the NZ based community whom I fly with held back the version of their server so that the majority of people would be able to fly online locally. The prospect of my compatibility being broken in the future is still a concern though.

so while your bashing of the pirates is for the most part valid, i do think you would be close-minded not to see the grey areas surrounding this matter (and perhaps the reason why many end up pirating 4.05m in the first place).

You wont get a lock from me.... in fact you must have read my mind... I was just thinking about going back through the patches and adding up all the free stuff... and keep in mind K... that the stuff you mentioned is only in 4.xx.... If you consider the stuff from 3.0 on.... that we didnt pay for and that wasnt a fix... Or better yet... go from 2.0 on.... bear in mind that PF was Luthier's thing.... so Oleg wasnt even looking at the PTO.. at least thats my take on it.....

As usual..... you are righht on the money.......

and clax.... while I cancertainly sympathize with your sentiment... bear in mind that the way the sim is designed... you cant add new stuff and be compatible... period.... so what... now 1C is supposed to continue to just give it away because people want them to?

Most of the people I know who pirate can afford to pay.. I dont judge anyone because I cant.. people do things for thier own reasons.. I can say that I have more repect for the pirate who says...... "AAArrrghhhh matey..... " Than the one who tries to pass himself off as something else.... or the one who uses the other excuses like Boonty or such...to justify what they do..... While I can certainly understand the $$$ aspect of piracy, even if I disagree with the practice.... people do what they have to... but the question I often ask is .. Do you really have to? I know of people who have to spend huge sums for SW in general because it just isnt cheap where they are.. but I know a lot of others who make good money.. and still pirate.. To each his own. All I can control in the end is me. I have too much cr@p on my rapsheet to judge anyone about anything.

There is never an excuse to steal..........Point blank, if you think anyone who owns a PC and can afford to have a net connection is poor, you're sadly mistaken and have little or no concept what poor is.....Might it be tight or break a budget, sure, yet again, a single odd job (like mowing a lawn or whatever) will easily pay for the add-on.

Let me be clear on this, in Jamaica I live around folks that besides living in a dirt floored tin shack with their whole family which is also their business....No electricity, no water, snd quite often no food on the table, on and on. These same folks however though EASILY having the opportunity at theft from wealthy tourists simply to live, to eat....REFUSE to do so as their honor means more to them then a full belly.

They may sell worthless trinkets they make, they may try and sell cast offs, they may take the most menial jobs for a weeks wages that EQUAL the price of 4.05, they may *****.........Yet they don't steal....Their name and honor when you have nothing else the one thing you'll always have.

Now I'm fortunate....Most of my life wasn't, in fact the description above mild.....Now extremely opposite....Yet without having a job and having some sense of pride, everything I get for this sim I buy by doing something to earn the money to get it.....That keeps it mine, and yes, it is much easier for me to make $20 off a complete stranger then most so not shorting anyones efforts needing to do the same.

Yet I can never think of any excuse to compromise my integrity over a simple game.....Nor anyone else to.

For a fact I can tell you, ANYONE who plays here and steals the product, has just scammed those that gave it to them......As if it was so bad, they'd not even be able to post on these forums..................

Those of you that bought and paid for it, though you may believe you are just helping someone out.......Then if you must send YOUR funds to those at Ubi/1c where ever......and for each extra copy you pay for, feel free to give away with praise from me.

Yet in the end I think you'll find........Those that steal it have a simple set of words though doubtfully said for those of us that pay for it....Sucker, Fool, Dumbazz.....Thinking themselves more clever to swindle someone or steal a simple inexpensive game.......There is the level of integrity no matter the excuse.....and no, it will NOT make 1c quit development for JUST this flight sim, it will force them to end the whole product line including BoB...........The thieves response?...."ehh so what, I fly something else then".

It will cost us all........be sure.

Hm, patch 4.06... how will it work? Free or must pay for it? Will 4.05 be required for 4.06 to work? Or can we jump from 4.04 to 4.06? What about servers then: 4.04, 4.04m, 4.05, 4.05m, 4.06, 4.06m http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

As for 4.05 - I haven't got ot, nor will I ever get it for the sake of Pe-2 alone.

LEBillfish
06-29-2006, 10:37 AM
For 4.06 "it is my understanding" (so may be wrong) will either be a fix for some issues in "4.05" and or will be a significant add-on.

If you're at 4.04 & refuse to pay for more content you've just set your own cut off point for development of this sim........As that was to be the last. Everything past that 1c's way of trying to include some partially finished existing work (perhaps to keep us interested)....Yet it all takes time and money...........Nothing past 4.04 was expected to be done.

Feel fortunate we're getting it.

Jasko76
06-29-2006, 11:05 AM
Don't get me wrong, Billfish. If 4.06 adds something really interesting to the game and it may turn requiring 4.05 to work, sure, I may pay for 4.05.

But anyway, isn't it time we really turned our attention toward the BoB now? I'm happy with the Il2 as it is now... the best darn WWII sim made so far. Now I'm ready for the next step in evolution, let's stop beating this poor old horse, I mean Il2. Oleg & co. should turn their full attention towards the new game, instead of wasting time and efforts on the Il2.

Billfish, the problem is that most people have absolutely no sense of honor and respect no one anymore. I run a self-serve car wash, so I know of what I speak. People steal things that they could have no possible use for, destroy my equipment for absolutely no reason, and apparently most don't know what a trash can is for, or how to use it. Thing is, I used to blame it on teen-agers. I've learned that it's mostly adults who are guilty of my vandalism.

As for the add-ons...I was not excited about 4.05. I've only flown the Pe-2 a couple of times. What I AM excited about is 4.06, and I also want to support Oleg and show my appreciation for his work. I am not happy with Boonty (a totally different subject), but I was able to remove it, so it's now a non-issue.

People who steal often do so without reason. I totally agree with you: A thief is a liar, and a liar is a thief. I have no use for them, and they have no excuse for doing what they do.

To DEMAND ANYthing to be given for free is cheeky and childish at best. FB works perfectly in most systems right now. It isn't a very bugged item yet, and further support is not obligatory at all. If some don't like some of the game FEATURES, just hope they'll change them, and accept what they give out -for a price- or not.

Videogames are not primary needs. They're not bread. They're not something you have to wear not to be naked. You don't need them to feed yourself or your children. You don't need them to find a job.

Videogames are luxury goods. And luxury goods are not for free. If the poor can't pay them, they can't have them. If they steal them, they go to jail. Poorness is not an excuse to steal luxury goods, because they're not needed. That's how world works. If you don't like it...

WORSE FOR YOU!

imo stealing things as an alternative thought is very much a result of education and social environment.
i don't say that as an excuse and i for myself have very little criminal energy, so i don't give a good thief (watching those movies i sometimes would like to be able for some fantastic robbery http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif). reading this thread i just wonder about some emotional statements (in general and not related to the game and patches).
i consider it moral-wise much worse to have people being 'honest' only as long as the matter is a 'good' thing, or something they personally bother about. when it comes to topics or objects which are not in their liking or, in addition, of an abstract character, so many find it simply ok to steal, betray or circumvent.

what i mean is, it doesn't matter, if there have been already free patches, if one talks to a big-mouthed downloader, if future games will be more expensive due to stealing or any other good 'reason' for not stealing.
so far i agree with the initial reminder not to further distribute the add-on for free, just don't exaggerate and don't sound like the spanish inquisition, just because it is about your favourite gameplay.

as i said, it's about throwing the first stone in general, not about us taking care of not supporting free distribution of the add-on.

Me, too. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/agreepost.gif

The only thing that delayed my purchase of 4.05m was Bootybox, but once I got comfortable on how to rid my system of it I went ahead and got it (thanks Luthier and Mr. Moonlight, among many others, for the anti-BoontyBox info!).

I have a feeling that the ones who scream the loudest about paying for add-ons, (not "patches" - there is a distinction between a "patch" and an "add-on"; understand it), are the ones who got FB+AEP+PF without paying for it in the first place. These squealing weasels are lower than the weakest, ugliest catfish borrowing at the bottom of the dirtiest, muddiest river one can find. They make these ridiculous demands yet they display their hypocracy by ignoring the literally criminal method they accuired the host program.

(I had pre-ordered both AEP and PF...I went for a pirate PF when I learned it was to be released 2 weeks later than anywhere else..I still brought my pre-ordered copy, and then removed the pirate version, but im sure many others did not)

Had Ubi not relented to Oleg's and the community's request/demand for the "Russia only" add-on(s), you just know they'd still be on the HD's of flight simmers the world over, yet only profits in Rubles

They did go for world-wide release in the end, yet still mangled it by not allowing for easy, or in some cases, even possible purchase by those with anemic dial-up and/or lack of online-purchace options...for those in that position, after having put $$$ into everything else previously, thus helping the development of projects, such as the "Russia-only" add-ons, are now "left out" of the community moving forward with 4.05+...how de hell dya think many will respond to that treatment?

not to condone piracy, but if Ubi gave everyone the chance to buy, there would be a lot less of it

Don't agree Daiichidoku as with AEP, PF, & then 4.05 I had offers made to me to get a free copy within hours of release.............

We have some members here who might buy it, yet within minutes have it posted on some FTP.....Pretty pathetic simply to "be the man" with others, most often as I said above thinking anyone who buys it is a fool for spending money.

The better and I hope larger part of the community SUPPORT all good efforts in flight sims.
We SUPPORT by PAYING for them.
We know that without the good companies we will only get mediocre flight sims at best.

Who wants to only have what the likes of Micro$oft wants to sell us? How much were the
last two CFS titles on release? How much do good single plane addons for those cost?
That is the alternative to Maddox Games. No SUPPORT and there is only the alternative.
Easy enough to see a time when one company only makes the sims poorly and charges insanely.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

W98SE here so I paid at UBI but had to download through other means. But I paid first.

I do wish that the suits at UBI can get their heads out of their briefcases and charts long
enough to realize that:

1) Anything they do to 'protect' the software will be broken very quickly.
2) There will always be a crowd that will steal the software.
3) The same ones will not be major players, it's just trophy baubles to them.
4) The more difficult the 'protection' is, the harder for paying customers to either get or
use the software.
5) Number 4 causes lost sales, lost customers and creates piracy.

Funny but I thought that the idea is to maximise profits so why spend money to lose money?
Boonty system cost UBI two ways.
1) Boonty was not free to UBI.
2) UBI took in less sales than it would have.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UBI should also figure that the pro efforts at hacking and cracking very likely come from
competitors trying to wedge the market. Of course they will. Only naieve idiots would not
believe as only ethical competitors would not try and if you can believe that all efforts
of the competitors are ethical then I will sell you the Eiffel Tower and throw in the Louvre.

I don't mind the whining about theivery, but the cheap shots at us guys who won't buy it gets my gander up. I have no intention of supporting Red Rocket Games one bit, they're less than honerable in my eye's for the whole PF fiasco. Oh, and the game did become mediocre the minute it solely became object oriented, when 1C abandoned the engine.

Where were you guys when multiple beta's and patches were being ripped off wholesale by nearly the entire community? Now you want to call them out, quite humerous.

Where's your evidence of massive thievery in the first place? Something tells me it's more like massive malaise, most simply no longer give a damm and moved on.

When you have droves of former fanatics right in this forum telling you they ain't biting, than why would you assume Joe Q Offline would even be interested?

There may be some part of what's left of the onwhine die hards that did, but I doubt this addon made as much impact as a mouse on the road, even with the thievery.

Maybe if were real lucky skinners can start charging for there free wares and mission builders for there€s. This Sims been built on valued multi content add on. Paying for one plane I will never fly just so I can play online. No thanks I€ll just wait for Storm of War. Besides I dont even know were to steal this add on from anyway.

I did and will happily pay for the add on. The way I see it I am supporting Oleg and team when they supported me with free patches and new content. In my book it is a past due kind of thing. Because the fact is, Oleg is past due for recognition and a paycheck, considering some of the past events that have happened (in and out of court) ... If they need a little $$$, I don't care. As long as it keeps the exelent content they have spewing out to continue to spew out, I have no objections.

Nice sentiment LEBillfish, but a little late.

Anyone who was going to steal PE-2 has already done so. And anything said here will not stop anyone so inclined from stealing 4.06.

So...while I applaud your effort, I have to say I think you're wasting your time on this one.

Well that's not the point............Those that are blatant thieves have done so........Yet there is a whole contingent that does not own it........Yet with 4.06 coming out & so on will need it............With that in mind some honest folks might get the idea to "hand off for free" 4.05 now, so these others can buy 4.06 and use it............In the end it boils down to the same thing.

SO this thread is not to make thieves honest.....They don't have the integrity, pride, or honor to do that..........It's to nudge those who are naturally honest to remember they compromise that trait even if they think they are doing a good deed.

Believe me..........Someone will out of the goodness of their heart offer to give another 4.05.......The surprise they'll get will be when they are asked by the same person for 4.06. That person now thinking them a stooge.

Not buying a Addon is not good for anyone. Ok, the Boonty was a stab in the back. But this a UBI thing, not from developers.

I have always criticized the gameplay/arcadish of IL2FB. I want something more hardcore and realistic (only IMHO). And i greatly disapprove Booty that only punish legal users.

But, we must buy everything that smells to simmulator. Doing this we are supporting the future sims. Is something like a investment.

About Boonty - has anyone heard from anyone at UBI that they have abandoned Boonty box for the 406 release, and any other releases for any other games?

Cause I think not. They said sorry, they may modifying but as far as I know they are still committed to the delivery method/concept.

Please say it ain't so!

I don't think that there is anything nefarious about Boonty box, it just sucks that's all.

The bottom line, for me, is that if I reach the point where I can't afford a tenner (GBP) every once in a while for an few more aircraft and maps and objects then my life is totally *****d and I shouldn't be playing with a computer at all.
Sure, Boonty is a PITA to deal with without a good up-front explanation of how to use it but that confusion has now been dealt with by Luthier & others.

I know many people agree to pay and happy ,and other people have to pay with out agree ... do this people are the bad guys?

I agree that 1C had make long term investment to give customers alot of free patch , and now need some benefit return to support current project.

but just one simple question "why not break add on out of fix (old bug) patch ?"

some a clever Idea it seem good but do like this many time is not look good

I know, 1C know the way how to build a long term relation to a golden-customers in international makets. time is change but competition is never change in a business.

but if there aren't so many people like you, then don't blame the developers for giving something that many others wanted, but you don't

the question is totally logical, unfortunately such break-outs would result in multiple development branches and multiplication of programming/testing/release costs, this mutiple branches are horribly expensive to every software company, so i see no realistic chance for this from the dev team already focusing on SoW:BoB, when bug fixes aren't even planned anymore (IOW we are even lucky to have them bundled with the add-ons, the other option is not have release any fix in the add-ons, but that's not exactly what we really want, right?)

common rnzoli, I stay in software business over 15 years , there have a lot of tools and technic to handle this kind of problems , 1C is not a small company , there have alot of best programmer/developer and I don't think 1C has a poor management, your sound not make logic for me.

so you are in software business, then look around and give us 3 major (popular) PC games where the development company maintained a parallel development line of "bug fixes" and another line for "addons + bug fixes"

if it so easy and cheap to apply your idea, it should be all around in the industry, right?

karost
06-30-2006, 07:44 AM
Oh yea, that is what you think...
well your idea right if you can't fix it then I agree with you.

just an easy sample case for backup my word, free s/w like Apache web server 1.3.xx and 2.0.xx ... see they can do ( if they want to do. )

well, you may not agree coz it's a difference sigment. same as I don't agree what you point out. no one right or wrong ... just make logic or not for other readers decision.

it is not a technical problem, but it is a business decision to challenging a customers. (imho)

S!

rnzoli
06-30-2006, 09:01 AM
well, you may not agree coz it's a difference sigment
you are right, GNU software is a totally different development segment as well as different financing scheme, because development is funded not through payments but volunteer contributions from the power users, so whoever decides about two branches takes the impact from this immediately (split branches mean fractional resources on the branches i.e., slower development)

while in your case, you want the 2 branches from 1C to make no contribution to the development at all, totally the opposite of the GNU scheme http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

your are also right, not a technical problem, it can be done (CVS etc.), but it is costly, therefore it is a business decision for products financed by retail payments, so let's just remember that a company is always more challenged by their competitors than their customers http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I don€t have 4.05. I do have every CD version sold in the US market. I have two complete edition DVDs purchased from NewEgg. I have no problems with paid add-ons. Well, I do have a problem. The current method of distribution. Boonty IS a big deal. But there is a simple solution. Just offer up a CD for those who want it. I€m more than happy to pay extra for the media/handling/shipping necessary. Why antagonize customers, and more importantly, force us to suffer through all these €œthieves€ and €œcommunity fragmentation€ posts when you have willing buyers waiting for an opportunity to send you money?
