Running a stand-alone, remotely-administratable EXE on a REMOTE computer with the ability to create an Admin account to connect to via IP to run:

COOP mode
DF mode

Not just running it on a machine that is sitting next to you. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Commands:

maxplayers (2-32)
gamemode (DF | COOP)
password (serverpassword)
server_flags (see http://forums.ubi.com/messages/message_view.asp?name=Olegmaddoxreadyroom&id=zwrky)
loadmission (nameofmissionfile.mis)
fly_mission (starts mission when all players have hit fly)
force_fly_mission (starts mission and kicks all players that haven't hit fly)
kick "player_id" (kicks player id)
endmission
restart
quit
etc.
etc.

And all of the 1.1b console commands work as well. And the icon commands work as well, etc.

You'd connect to the remote server via IP from inside the game.

-- dedsv_connect 192.168.0.1 (example)
-- dedsv_password "adminpassword"
-- Connecting...
-- Connected
-- maxplayers 16
-- Maxplayers changed to 16
-- gamemode COOP
-- Game Mode is now COOP
-- server_flags 2686
-- Padlock; Cockpit Always On; etc. etc. etc.
-- loadmission "Stucka Attack.mis"
-- Mission File Found
-- Loading Map, Objects, etc. etc.
-- Waiting for Players
-- force_fly_mission
-- Starting Map; Kicking Unready Pilots...
--

Sorry if I get to this discussion late, but is a Linux version planned?

It sure would help since there's sooo many machines out there on the net running the penguin os.. Just curious.

I doubt it.
It would need to be ported; and I'm 100% certain that they won't do it... not saying they are bad because of it, but just time/effort.

I'd be happy with a Win32 dedicated server; ESTATIC for a Linux server, but hey. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif Beggers can't be choosers.

The community has been asking for a dedicated console server for the past year and half I think. I really wish that someday it will be available.

No way, unless the programers erm... kinda suck only the graphic/sound code may be hard to port (anyway they are using OpenGL) net code, physics code... lets say the game in itself shouldnt.
Thats why most of the multiplayer games out there have a GNU/Linux dedicated server available.
Then again unless you are a really bad programmer or just dont care about portability issues it shouldnt be hard to make a GNU/Linux dedicated server. ITOH in game programming performance is one of the most important things so is kinda possible to mess up the code modularity and throw the portability away in order to gain performace.
So this basically means that only the programmer knows if it can be done easily or not LOL

TBH that is not good enough. Explicitly if you are running it in a hosting environment it must run as a NT/Win2000 service. No hostmaster in his right mind is going to leave a machine logged on so that a program can be run

Ok to add to the list but really a nice to have as opposed to a requirement.

The ability to have a server support multiple dogfights/coops at the same time. IE one host = more than one concurrent game. I admit that this would add complexity to the code with negotiation of different ports to use and possible firewall configuration issues. But you could bind each game to a different IP address on the same machine.

This would allow the big hosts with good bandwidth and high performance boxes (when combined with running as a service) the ability to offer game hosting for squads without massive expenditure on hardware
