Here's a little heads up on the BoB WoV sim that for some reason or another,I have kept on my C: Drive & keep fooling with...I think mostly because it works well with TrackIR 3 Vectoring programs....Anyway there is alot of good news ,thanks to a few new "Official patches ",which help it run better without so many of the right from the box operating problems,& new third party ones just out. These third party downloads primarily address the cosmetics of the game, mostly but not entirely the backgrounds;with them the so-so effects that came with the game are much improved ...o this:

There are downloads for water, landscape, weather, cockpits, gunfire, handling etc.( many found here:

But elsewhere within the postings of Shockwaves BoB site..it does take some looking, tho. With these improvements one can easily say that this is the way it should have come out of the box! I suppose even more will be coming ,but it is too bad so many may have thrown the sim onto a shelf before all this new work became available. Its still no FB?PF but really geting better& closer!
One thing that has yet to be improved & really need it is the lack of reflected light on the exterior surfaces( or the very low level effect of the reflected light ) even on bright days. This makes aircraft nearly impossible to see against the ground & seems to my eye less realistic than FB/PF..Maybe they'll get around to figuring that out,I can't be the only one who thinks about this can I?
At any rate here are a few screens showing improves backgrounds:

This (WoV) will be my Christmas present (to myself if needs be http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif)

That water looks stunning, but I'm not sure whether it really fits with the rest of the scenery in the game. It's nice to have the option to replace it though...we might see even greater improvements over time. Some of pictures I've seen of the default water show it to be quite good 'straight out of the box'.

This is default water I think, (stolen) from the screenshot forum over at Shockwave http://shockwaveproductions.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1732 :

By the way isn't it called 'Wings of Victory' not 'Wings of Valour', or is this the name of an add-on/scenery?

I coldn't resist posting these:

Edit: I just saw on the shockwave forum that the sea mod is from Check Six(?):

It does look good, though a bit too green for my liking in this picture:

Don't mean to piss on your parade, but the graphics are not up to Il2 standards, though the screenies look nice. There is a water mod available that allows you to choose from 7 water graphics. The water is not dynamic like Il2.

Still, I would recommend this sim (I have it myself) because the campiagn is great. Also, the developers did a good job with flight models and AI. The other strength of this sim is that there a huge number of planes in the air. It definately doesn't replace Il2 series, but lots of fun nonetheless.

I picked up wings of victory the other day (Just to tide me over until Oleg gets BoB out).

Well I don't think I'll be taking Pacific Fighters off my computer any time soon. I like the fact that I can actually take off in PF without having to cheat.

Using the TIR-VE is a hoot, But its a bit hard to get your head in the right place to use the reflector site. I just hope it goes into Olegs BoB.

From memory It seams fairly close to the original Battle of Britain by Rowan. ( I could never get the moded verion of the original WOV working on my new computer)

It still has the nasty change from detailed aircraft models to black crosses when they pass a set distance away from you. (very ugly) At least they could make them into a blurry cross at distance instead of a rigid defined cross.

Take off seams harder than I remember with the Spitfire waddling along the runway like a sheep with one leg cut off! (Can any one name the book that came from?)

And in a dog fight the e/a seam to have this ability to float in front of you and twist and turn at really strange angles.

I cant say I've seen a tracer yet but it is very satisfying seeing those puffs of debris when you eventually score a hit!
