If I try to fly this plane in QMB, the engine simply whines to a halt.
Have uninstalled and reinstalled all CD's and patches to no avail http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

When Flying the P-80 go easy with the throttle.
You have to make slower and steady adjustments
because you will flame out or catch fir.

The engine seems to go out at pretty random intervals for me, top of climb, steep pull-ups, waiting at the lights, etc.

It can be restarted, but think speed has to be 300(km)+ to spin up the engine.

This has happened to me, but I have just restarted the mission until it works, usually the next try. Is this happening every single time?

This is a common problem with early jets. Compressor stall.

All throttle adjustments must be incremental and smooth.

Also any high angle of attack maneuver can distrub airflow across the front of the intakes, which will precipitate an engine stall. Jets must be flown very smoothly, never let your speed drop below 300kph. No yanking the stick, smooth inputs only. Speed and altitude are your friends.

If you are over 400kph the throttle can simply be left on 100%

What ElAurens said is correct. The YP-80 and the other jets are very easy to fly badly. They are very sensitive to pilots who generally throw their aircraft about and are heavy and hard on the throttle. If you have an actual throttle control be sure to ramp your speed up slowly. If your a keyboard gamer use the speed increase incrementally and not all at once.

High AoA moves and slow speed turn fights are out. You're liable to enter compressor stall situations...be thankful its not the Me-262's engine which will more generally light on fire.

Details-
If the is another aircraft of any kind present, on the other side, the engine simply winds to a stop within 10-15 seconds of spawning and will not restart. There is no time for me to manuver or even mishandle the throttle.
If I fly the QMB with it and no opposing aircraft it is fine.
Sooooo wierd.
If I fly against one, the AI has a blast flying it just fine thank you o_O

Hallo gth.... !

This happens to me all the time. This is what i do:

I enter the QMB and set up a YP-80 mission.
I hit "FLY", enter the mission, and (Yes !) the engine stops.
Now, wait for about 1 min, give 5-15% throttle, hit "engine start" (on my keyboard "I"). You cant restart the engine right away, you have to wait !!!

If you get the message "engine off", just wait a few seconds more.
Hit "Engine start" again. Repeat as long as you have to.

Sooner or later you get the message "engine starting", and then wait until it´s running, and then very slowly increase throttle (90 sec from 10% to 100%). Now exit the mission to the QMB menu.

HERE IS THE GOOD NEWS:

When I fly the same mission one more time, the engine is running !!!
(This time, give 100% throttle BEFORE you hit the "FLY"-button.)

I have to do this every time I restart the game. This is bug. of course.

And be very gentle with the trottle on the early jets!

Hope this can help you.

..and of course, you must start with enough altitude, say 2000m or more.

Good Luck !!

I will give that a try, I usually start at 100 meters or so and have actually crashed whle trying to start.
BTW the Shooting Star is a farly decent glider!

If it fails no real problem, for a WW2 sim, I far prefer the prop planes http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

YP-80 works now, as long as I'm not at 100% throttle when spawning and do not push it fast to 100% it works.
Shooting Star nice ride, quite agile, nose mounter 6- 50 cals, nice tight cone of fire; takes wingis off nicely in deflection shots http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
