Hello all,

In my quest to become a Lufwhiner (I've loved the LW since my days flying SWOTL) I began to fly the Experten Campaign tonight (Flying a BF109E). On the first mission, while trying to keep up with my leader, I kept destroying my engine. I'd get some massive overheating and then the dreaded "Engine Inoperable" (which led to my leader saying "Two, Get back to base now" and as I glided earthward he screamed "Two, WHERE ARE YOU?" /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif ).

I've played as VVS quite a bit (I love my Yak and La5n) and have never done this to an engine.

How do I properly fly a LW plane so that I don't blow it up 5 mins into the mission?

Thanks,
Ronnie

are you running with CEM? Overheating your engine is a bad thing, when your engine starts overheating, lower your throttle. If you are using CEM you may be over revving your engine, in which case you'll have to change your prop pitch, though I believe most of the LW aircraft have auto prop-pitch now.

That may be it... I hit Shift-0 when I got in the air, and it said "Prop Pitch 100%" but I thought that Shift-0 meant Auto pitch, so I dindn't fiddle with it anymore...

Thanks for the tip,
Ronnie

hi, i am a beginner myself flying the 109E

if you are using the CEM try to keep the rpm to between 2200 and 2000 and dont go all out full throttle for too long. it really pays to keep an eye on the temperatures and occasionally ,especially when you are on route to your target to open the radiators. the last thing you want is to charge into battle with an already hot engine. play with the pitch prop and unless you are climbing i have never been flying for too long on 100%prop pitch. though since the patch i the 109E has auto prop pitch as well which should make it a lot easier.
i never found it to be a big problem to keep up with the squad acctually.
it really takes a lot of practise but after a while you will start to hear already whether you are running smoothly or not.
with most of the russian planes i found that i could just full throttle them all the way and didnt have much overheating if any.

Or you could just autopilot until near the time you need to take the controls or until the flight has slowed down to cruising speed. The AI engines won't and will never over heat so they can run full all day leaving you behind.

Has engine managment been worked on in the patch for the LW?

The AI planes almost always will run away from you at first. Watch the prop pitch because it sounds like thats what happened. And when the leader starts cussing you just be patient and when you catch up to him shoot his a** down for smarting off. I do lol. I dont fly right with the AI planes so they curse me a lot lol.

...and once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward,
for there you have been and there you long to return.

very odd, i know that in the original IL it was impossible to keep up with the squad but in fb that has never been an issue for me.
pourshot, in what way reworked ?
the auto prop pitch was added to the 109E other than that i didnt notice much difference.
