These four pictures have a common link...I'll give you a clue? A dotty idea caused some rethinking back in 44?

a reuseable nuclear weapon (shaped like a deep sea submarine) was tested in the himalayas and radiation went high in the atmosphere and killed trees along a street in connecticut

Something to with Dauntless Dotty and the first B-29 raids on Tokyo in Novemember of 44?

Lots of 29's flew "The Hump" at the end of the pacific war.

the jetstream?

it was first discovered when B29's were making bomb-runs over japan.

Freshness is right - the jetstream is the common link.

The clue to picture 3 was 'a King's Tutor' = Merlin. I think the picture is a merlin engine from 'Star Dust', a civilian conversion of an Avro Lancaster lost in 1947 when it crashed into Mount Tupangato, Chile. Recently an investigation has speculated that the plane was off-course, in foul weather, due to it flying at high altitude into the jetstream. Yes, that was a fascinating documentary. Seen it twice now. What suprised me was that they did not know the meaning of "STENDEC". It's... STarting ENroute DECent!
