I just stumbled on this Il2 gun cam film on the web and this is what we have been needing for so long. I would love to have an actual guncamera playback like this one with no sound (except the sound of the movie projector), and black and white. This would add so much to the sim. If we could have this in addition to the track playback that would be FANTASTIC!!!
I know it is way too late for Il2 but could we please see this in BoB. Here is a link to the film.

And on one last note, keep up the great work Oleg and team! What you have going so far on BoB looks GREAT!!!<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

So like a track playback, but B&W, and only when you pulled the trigger?

I still prefer this one:

Java GunCam, originally designed for Warbirds - works great for IL2 and has b/w and scratches-settings included, for a more realistic touch.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I don't know how gun cameras evolved throughout the war, but those used later on seemed to have selectable speed settings, e.g., 24/32/48 fps. In all likelihood this setting would have been made before take-off by the ordnance guys(?).

The speed of action in a fight would lead to a certain preference by those interpreting the films for a higher frame rate, which at standard playback speeds (24 fps) would result in "slow motion". Most gun cam footage I've seen seems to be slowed by about a factor of two.

So, an added touch might be to offer the player the option of selecting the fps setting before take-off. Or at least use historical values. And perhaps historical film cassette lengths could be another option (no hour-long films from a single reel).

Moreover, I seem to recall that in at least some cases the pilot had to toggle the camera on and off independently of firing the guns or releasing other ordnance. An extra thing to think of in the heat of battle!
