Could someone tell me when and where I can get the type IX uboat. I am almost to 1942 and still in a type VIIC. Would like to take more torps with me on deployment.

I hate Lorient - you will waste a lot of time in every beginning of patrol (no time compression) !
Try 12 Flotilla - Bordeaux

There are some programs like silent hunter commander that let you change the time compression values so that you won't have that lorient problem. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Or you could just change the config files in about 2 seconds. Change the time compression near land to domething like x64. Then you will be out of lorient much quicker.

Ok, you need to go into the main cfg file in the SH3 directory in your my documents. The address should be something like C:\Documents and Settings\administrator\My Documents\SH3\data\cfg

Open it with the notepad and scroll down till you see the timecompression figures. These are what mine are at the moment.

[TIME COMPRESSION]
TimeStop=0
RealTime=1
LandProximity=128
CriticalDamage=1
CrewEfficiency=1
AirEnemyDetected=1
SoundEffects=2
CharacterAnim=4
EnemyDetected=8
RadioReport=8
Particles=8
PrayState=8
HunterState=32
3DRender=32
Maximum=1024

Note that i have land proximity set to 128, because i'm in 2nd flotilla and out from Lorient so i changed it to that. All you have to do is change the value of the time compression to a higher number like 64 and voila, no more taking half an hour to get outta Lorient I don't think i changed any of the others but don't quote me on that. Hope this helps you.

If I may suggest to copy the origional file into notepad or something and save it, say to your docs as "unmod sh3 cfg file" so you can copy it back over the altered file if you need to undo the changes...

Try installing the latest version of SH3 Commander. You will be able to get a Type IXB in October 1939. They are available from 2nd Flotilla based out of Wilhelmshaven.

What i did is start the career out of brest on a Type VII, and when i had something around 10000 renown points, i transferred to 2nd Flotilla in lorient (keep in mind that this was done at the end of 1941, cant recall exactly when). Later in the war, you need to transfer to the 10th Flotilla, as they are the ones using the IX. I did 3 patrols from lorient and then transferred back to Brest http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
I have also tried to modify the CAREER_0.CFG file inside the My Documents folder to see if it was possible to avoid going to Lorient to get the IXD2 (obviously, i deduct the amount of renown from my total renown for the cost of the upgrade). When i loaded back the game, i was in Brest, with a IXD2!! But everytime i tried to go on patrol, i had a message saying SONAR DESTROYED. I checked in the crew management screen and indeed the sonar was detroyed. After that, i reversed the changes. I was unable to find a reason or a solution to that.
