View Full Version : Throttle sensitivity

I really want throttle and prop pitch more sensitive. I don't know why they only got 2% or even 3% steps in year 2003. That just doesn't have to be /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif . BTW in Il-2 it -was- more sensitive, although the hudlog on the right side only showed 2% steps, sometimes 1% steps. Now in FB I really have to struggle with the throttle to have it on 100% if it jumps between 99% and 101%.

I have mapped 100% throttle and -5% throttle to my mouse buttons, and if I set trhottle with them (or the numbers on my keyboard) i get exact the amount I expect.

When I override with the rotary on my stick - I often (but not always) see the throttle-percentage oscillating between eg. 99%-101%

I think the ingame precision is down to 1% - if it was 2% you wouldn't be able to have BOTH a 100% and a 95% setting, and if you throttle up using rotary you can easily see that the precision is below 5%.

So maybe it has to do with the stick and the stick driver ?

The 95% can be explained because it jumps in steps of either 2% or 3%, with this it is not impossible to get an uneven number, but reaching a certain setting is sometimes not easy.

I guess I've just trained myself well, as I can hit 100% on the dime with my X45 HOTAS almost every single time without looking.

It could be that I have the throttle reversed (due to the rocker arm for rudders), so that my 100% is probably everybody else's 20%.

As a check, reverse the throttle direction in the HOTAS section and see if it works for you (LOL, I could jump into an Italian aircraft and have no problems with the throttle...it would be every other nation that would be backwards!)

You might try turning off the 'Hud' and simply looking at the in-cockpit throttle, it's as smooth as silk. You'll never know (or care) whether you have 99% or 100% after doing this.

That's what was in Il-2. It was smooth. It moved although the hud message didn't change/appear. But in FB it's not. There it's like the messages. Moving the prop pitch manually in 109s F+, one smallest step rotates it a quarter hour. That too much and should be more sensitive.

It's too bad the throttle they push with the game (CH Pro throttle USB) hangs on 99% throttle and will skip a % sometimes.

BTW it's not only throttle and prop. Take a fly in QMB with FW ('cos you see it best there due to that roll rate). Then center the stick and move it very slowly until FB reacts. You'll notice that smooth banking isn't possible.

So it's a bumper /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

So how much of a delay did you program into the roll axis? My roll settings are 100% across the scale without any dead zone, the stick graphics in cockpit match stick motion perfectly, there's no delay. My throttle stops at whatever % I choose. Your losing me on this one, what exactly is the issue, a game glitch or hardware problem? Game is working like a dream here.

I would have to say it is your joysticks causing this. I own a Microsoft Precision 2 and it works perfectly. I can adjust my throttle to whatever I like from 0-110%. I use to use a Logitech Wingman Extreme and it gave the same problems you all are having now.

Say what you like about MS but for the price they make one fine stick. According to PC Gamer its second only to the Thrustmaster Cougar.

I have to agree that 99% of these complaints are simply joystick related. I have an 2 year old X-36 USB that progresses in 1% increments just fine. It also banks smoothly with no jerkynes. Check for new drivers, or buy a quality stick.

Personally, I can't possibly imagine what a 1% difference in throttle setting could make, but that's just me...

Mine too, but it needs some fiddeling /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif .

Can't be my stick as it's a MS FFB2. I also got a Precision 2 - same issue. Maybe it's just smooth enough for you?? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

OK here's a track (http://mitglied.lycos.de/eldur190d9/downloads/throttle.ntrk) of it.
Didn't use prop pitch as the only difference to the throttle is it's increments are 2% or 3% instead of 1% or 2%. That also indicates it as a FB issue /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif . Notice the 2% steps it makes 80% of the time I move it steadily towards 0%. And I'm fiddeling around 90%, later I get 50% and 100%, but then having problems to get 50% again. One kick down and up and it's there. Also see how stepwise the thottle wanders in the cockpit.
Or the plane banking - OK it's not that issue, but you'll see it there, too. Especially with 8x time it's obvious.

They just don't use so many "notches" in their input stuff. That's all. That what I want inceased. At least 1% steps @100% of the time in every axis position. 0.5% steps would even be better, that makes 200-220 "notches" per axis /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif . Should be not that problem.

You may as well forget it, because they are not going to worry in the slightest about changing the code to give you 0.5% throttle increments. Sorry. Fact of life, but you can believe what you want. With all the really significant issues barely being addressed, you can be sure this won't ever show up on anyone's radar screen.

I suggest that you focus on something else...

ur complaining about ur throttle jumping 2 % sometimes, good god, thank god u guys don't use my messed up throttle, that jumps from 110 to 80 and back continously at times.

Ya Ya, I need a new stick.

I think it's related to the controller you're using. My MSFFB2 throttle axis gives raw values 0~127, while pitch and roll give -512~511, and the rudder axis would only give -32~31!!! That means I can control my pitch and roll more precisely than throttle (much more than rudder).

Try this software to see your controller inputs:

Interesting... got the same stick. But: I already did some funky things like throttle on Y-Axis and so on just to see. Should be more precise there, but it isn't. And 0~127 are 128 notches. That would be enough for 1% steps, but it often makes 2% steps. And Prop pitch on the SAME axis even does 3% steps. So it must be something in FB. As I said before, in Il-2 the display showed the same 2%, sometimes 1% increments on the right side while the throttle itself (lever, RPM, MAP gauges) actually were 2, 3 or even 4 times smoother than now in FB!

I have no problems with setting it to 100% 101 102 103 etc but then again I use a saitek x45

I had a Saitek X45 for a short time. It wasn't different.

Of course I can get it into every notch. 100, 101, 102, 103 etc. But it needs some pull'n'push to get it as it does ~7 2% steps and 3 1% steps out of 10 steps while I move the throttle slowly.
