*First campaign I ran USN F4F SQN - after about 5 missions I could not play anymore as I just got a msg saying: can't load map (or something).

*On my second campaign in New Guinea we lose about 25% of the force as they crash into mountains with scary regularity.

*Now I started a Midway Campaign in P39. Now we lost 2 A/C crashing upon landing...

Common for all the campaigns is a ridiculous ATC system where it takes ages to land if we are to follow their instructions. Nr1 is usually cleared for landing... but then n2,3,4 etc need to go around. After the confusion has settled nr2 can land - nr3,4 etc are instructed to go-around etc etc.
So either remove the ATC system - or fix it. There is no problem landing in formation - we don't need 5NM wake-turbulence seperation between each landing http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

All the bugs above takes away some of the immersion of the campaigns - and Im not very tempted going back to campaign-chaos as it is now - which is a shame as the campaign is/should be one of PF stronger points... not up to Falcon4 standard...but...
Think I need to go online soonhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Why wait for landing permission? Just land whenever you like.

As for the suicidal AI. It's the same for Beaufighter and A-20 campaigns. You need to start these with a higher rank so that you decide where they go.

I am landing.
But the AI is not landing... whats the point of having an ATC system if it takes away the immersion of actually flying with other jockeys...
AI will never be the same as flying with other real jockeys (played WB for 4 yrs, wwiiol 1 yr) - but it doesn't have to be this stupid either...

You can get an updated beta version of DGEN.exe even before the next Ubi patch. Get it here:
http://www.il2center.com/DGen.rar
You have to have WinRAR to unpack it. If you don't have WinRAR, google it. This Dgen fixes bugs such as planes flying into mountain sides. Simply overwrite the old one when you unpack the new one.

When I select USMC @ Guadalcanal I get to fly P-39s...

When I select USAAF and fly P-40s I'm suddely part of VF-something...

DL'ing new DGEN now, thanks for the link, Mortoma.

Tnx Mortoma.
This is some unofficial fix I presume... so will it be any problems with patching later on?
Whats dgen.exe anyway? Some campaugn fixer?
I'll give it a try, and see how the AI is behaving in NewGuinea etc... tnx!

Yes, it's unofficial but Starshoy is encouraging DL'ing it. Dgen is Starshoy's baby, so he doesn't need permission from Oleg to make it available. Or he automatically has his permission. No, it will not cause patching problems since when the patch comes out, it will have this or an even better version of Dgen.exe that will simply overwrite it with no problems at all. The patch version will be the same or better, it's a work in progress.

What is Dgen.exe?? It's in the main folder of Forgotten Battles or Pacific Fighters. It's not in the Dgen folder and it's necessary to generate campaigns missions. It executes and generates a new/next mission every time you get done with a mission and hit the Apply button. If you want to fly a campaign, you need it unless you use a third party generator, of which a couple are availabe. But Dgen is what comes with the game, built in.

OK, tnx.
Tried it - and it doesn't seem to fix the stupid crashing low flying A/C - but rather find a walk-around it...?
Now the A/C were generally flying much higher - got the exact same mission as I did before I tried the new dgen.exe in the NewGuinea campaign - and now we were cruising at 8100ft, instead of 2000ft (or whatever it was).
I fear if we had met any 8200ft hight mountains the AI would still crash...?
And the ATC is still issusing go-arounds like it was an auction... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif
But at least it helps... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Yes, in a manner of speaking it's a work around.
The AI behavior is not something Starshoy can fix even if he wanted to. He only does Dgen, which is only a camapign generator. So he simply made all planes in New Guinea fly higher. The AI do have a little collision avoidance routine and will climb to avoid mountains if the slope is very gradual, but if they are flying a 2000 mtrs. and come across a 3000 mtr. mountain that has steep slopes, they will try to avoid and climb but they are too late to climb quickly enough. They simply don't seem to "see" a mountain soon enough. But the very same mountain, if it was very gradual sloped, they might have enough time to to climb above it, if the plane they are flying has enough climb rate.

Guys Starshoy is officially releasing a new DGEN tomorrow that will fix many of these issues and add some real nice new campaigns , such as P-38 and also USMC F-4 over guadacanal. If you visit the forums atwww.simhq.com (http://www.simhq.com) it seems to be public knowledge.
