View Full Version : REWARD for Revealing the True Identity of RBJ

This is not a joke, a group of well funded contributors have garnered nearly $1.27 in reward funds to be delivered to anyone offerring substantial proof of the true identity of RBJ. The burden of proof must be sound and each claim to the reward will be given stringent due-process by a committee of appointed officials. I am acting as a liason, so please PM me and I will forward on your claims to the proper authorities. Let's put a final end to this FB fraud.

There is only one person who posts in this forum (besides me) who knows my ace name online.

I am an online ace, who decided to become a forum ace. No, I am not any other poster, and if i did make an alias, it would't be to prop myself up, but rather to bring someone else down.

hehehe /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

i remember when that person was asking people to pm him if they wanted to know who he really was

- it was after RBJ slipped up and described a server he was in - something about being jumped by yaks from way above - the guy somehow went back and found the name he was using in that server.
i reckon the chances of him being a mod are very high - as soon as that guy asked who wanted to know a particular mod jumped on him STRAIGHT away hmmm a bit suss if u ask me

if only i could remember who the poster was and who the mod was - then i could claim my $1.27 -probably about 80p at current exchange rate.

All I know about RBJ is that even if he thinks that saluting using S is corny he did it himself in the beginning.

"Hi all, I would like to say that I really love IL2, but was wondering if Oleg & Co. (btw kudos to these guys!) are going to import the legendary 1% planes, since we all know they were the greatest planes ever.

Salute (S) !
-RBJ "

AND his favorite plane once was the FW but he had some problems manouvering it.

Won't get me any money right?

I really wish you'd all just give it a rest. To me RayBanJockey's like Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny or the Tooth Fairy. As long as noone shows me how it's really doneand who's hiding behind the mask I'll still get presents under the tree once a year, candy in a giant egg once a year, and...wait...I'll never get any more money under my pillow for leaving teeth there...

What I mean is that some things are best left unknown. Who really cares anyway who/what/if he is? Real live Grade-A person, moderator or nifty computer virus, so what!? Every post RBJ makes is worth reading, I don't agree on everything, but I laugh myself silly almost every day because of him (and you lunatics who are constantly chasing him like a pack of rabid dogs).

So I say: let's enjoy his posts and leave his identity secret. Thanks RBJ, you've made my day more than once! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

OK

Here is some food for thought.
The text below is fictious (or not), names, places, company names have been deleted in order to protect the identity of the persons involved.

"RBJ" has replaced the "unreal" name of the character.

If that is really you RBJ, respect. You really get people in this forum jumping around....

After reading all this, I have only one worry:
Who the hell is Buddy ? BUZ !!!????

Enjoy,

--------------------------
Welcome to the personal home page of the RBJ, a would-be famous mono-browed DJ who wants nothing more than to introduce you to his friends, his equipment and, yes, his music. The whole thing is just so na¯ve and unintentionally stupid that it becomes unbearably funny.

The allure lies in that there's this guy who's obviously trying so hard to look cool and professional, but he still manages to come off looking like an idiot to the rest of the world. Odds are, it won't be long before you tell your friends about it. And then they'll tell their friends about it, who in turn will tell their friends, ad infinitum. The knowledge of RBJ and his krazy disk jockeying ways spread like the plague.

So, like .com and .com before it, an anonymous and innocuous web site has managed to become a cultural institution thanks to good ol' fashioned word of mouth. With its simple layout, cheesy photos and imbecilic captions, the home page of the tight, red jumpsuit-wearing RBJ is thus able to leave its impression on the malleable tiles of the pop culture mosaic in our minds.

Everyone loves a pathetic fool, right? <== I guess when this was written they had not yet heard about Ubi Forum members, LOL

And then, the cyber-gods of irony step in.

RBJ isn't a fool. Hell, he's not even real. And if there's anyone who is naively mistaken about their 'coolness,' it should be the person who's sitting at the keyboard and just got suckered into some pre-emptive . <== but they knew Ubi Forum members would exist, ROFL

See, the RBJ isn't some random style- challenged pseudo-musician with HTML-savvy; he's a completely fabricated tool. Confused?

Along with .com (basically the same sort of idea, but this time with a "slim and handsome race car driver" as your host), RBJ is a completely contrived fake. The man who encourages his fans to "stay fresh" is about as real as Ronald McDonald.

Still confused?

If you're wondering why a company would create a home page for a fictitious struggling DJ, the answer is obvious: for him to do battle with their spokesman-a little plastic doll who answers to the name of Buddy.

Though the ad campaign is much more popular in the States, there's a chance you may have seen the irrepressible kewpie doll guy who's been Lee's mascot for quite some time. Created by and of the group, RBJ's entire raison d'ªtre comes down to being a thorn in the side of a plucky little doll who hawks blue jeans. Possessing admirable strength of character and a refusal to bow-down in the face of adversity, Buddy is the embodiment of the everyman hero. But, like the Batman needs the Joker, Buddy needed some villains to square off against.

"In order to define Buddy and his values, we needed to find characters that were his opposite. He's a man of action, who doesn't brag. The villains are self-absorbed and cocky and think they are great winners," yyy explained.

Originally unbeknownst to , and created the fake web page during breaks in their filming of the television commercial spots. Their secret plan was to rely on a form of 'viral' marketing to raise awareness for the impending television campaign. People kept forwarding the location of the site to other friends until the sites were receiving reportedly tens of thousands of hits a day. When the commercials finally aired, many couldn't believe that their favourite online losers had made the big time. For viral marketing to work, there's got to be some sort of compelling reason for a computer user to want to spread it along to everyone he or she knows. That or, the spreading of information has to be done with minimal (or no) effort on the part of the sender; those innocuous Hotmail links appearing at the end of people's emails are viral marketing at its best.

As for the actor portraying RBJ, one has to wonder if he sees some sort of conflict in passing himself off as an ineffectual under-achiever to the world in order to gain fame.

Hmmm... maybe this whole RBJ concept thing is kind of funny, after all.
-----------------------------------------

Jesus, I start spending more time in the forum than in the Hyperloby .......

Get me a patch or get me RBJ flying, I'm going mad soon

At the start of WW2 the German army lacked experienced anti-aircraft gunners. The average gunner was so bad that the USSR decided to help them out. They did it by forcing some of their pilots to fly I-153 flak magnets. These planes were slow but very sturdy. This allowed German anti-aircraft gunners to get a large amount of target practice on a relatively small number of planes. Thanks to the Soviets help, by the end of the war the German anti-aircraft gunners were amoung the best in the world.

I've been given a lead, the noose is tightning. It's not enough information currently to be awarded the cash prize but it could be very close.

If you want the cash you best submit your information now before the name is revealed and you don't even have a $1.27 to show for it /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Also, I will protect my sources if they wish for there names to be protected. We will call you "deepthroat" for annonymity sake...wait Helos is alreay using that one /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

R_Mutt: I don't know about this $1.27 U.S. that's pretty steep for us Canucks. You know a $1.27 US is like a million bucks canadian.

The reward might be worth $1.27 CDN but definitely not $1.27 US.

1) is it just me or did Manos1 confuse the hell out of anyone else with that post? - that one was totally lost on me

2) if i had paranoid tendancies (which i do) i might say that this whole thread was an intentional ploy by Mutt to do two things
a) get back at RBJ for some long standing grievance - which is perhaps understandable

b) getting back at UBI for removing the pilots
lounge by returning here to remove one of the forums
best known characters

OK i do kinda want to know who he is - but to be honest i'd rather it was left alone for the time being.- RBJ is almost an integral part of this forum, and it wouldn't be the same without him

i apologise if i'm wrong and i am being paranoid - but i have seen far more paranoid posts than this one .

Actually Fluke, I've never participated in the whole RBJ thing like others who get netted by his fishing.

a.) The only argument I've had with him was over which Yak was the better performer. So definately no grudge.

b.) We have a pilot's lounge that is better then anything Ubi ever had, so why would that cause me to do well...anything.

c.) the fact that someone would give up the identity after all the claims and posts and year+ of non-sense that they sat back and laughed at like many of us for a $1.27 is frankly quite funny. Take a step back (perhaps from your own grievances) and take a joke.

However, strangely enough I have a lead that actually up to now has some substance to it. So someone may sell out there friend RBJ for a cool $1.27. And yes the reward will be paid, no joke.

ok point taken -

it seems to me though that this forum appears to be split down the middle where our dear RBJ is concerned - no doubt there are many opinions on him but it seems that there are two in particular which are the most strongly held

1) those who find his posts a welcome departure from run of the mill posts, and are happy to see his continuing posting here

2) those who seem to find him an irritating troll - either due to being hooked by his line or are just sick of seeing him cast his line - and would like to see him banned or beaten to a pulp online- or just generally see him suffer

unfortunately i had (wrongly) placed you in this second catagory and although i saw some of the joke of this thread i obviously didn't see the whole joke - perhaps as (as you inferred yourself) it may well indeed play into the hands of those who would like to see RBJ unmasked - which would effectively cause this character to 'die' - and that would be a sad day indeed ! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
i suppose we could have a funeral and memorial service - could be fun actually !!

Things we know:

RBJ uses other names including:
the shootist, ace.hole, lithium1970, and maybe d-spade.

Ven has access to early RBJ posts. RBJ salutes and likes the FW although he has a hard time flying it.

Hunter82 and IIJG54 want to make sure that we know that they know what we want to know but they dont want us to know what they know. They just want to make sure we know that they know.

Tully says he is not a mod, he is a well known forum member. He however does not know who he is and could not be bothered to find out because he has no need to know what we want to know and what others already know.

RBJ thinks he looks like Keanu Reeves however others don't see the resemblance.

RBJ eats at Mcdonalds.

Manos1 and fluke39 are starting a "Save the Superbrow" campaign. They believe that once his true identity is exposed he will simply evaporate and cease to exist.

What else?

I'd be disappointed to find RBJ's real identity. I welcome his posts here, and look forward to them more than some of the more 'serious' topics that make the circuit here. Some how I've always hoped that RBJ is really just RBJ, and that in the end, the entire joke will have been played upon those that have believed otherwise. The irony would be beautiful.

Did anyone notice how RBJ suddenly surfaced when this community was in riot over the delayed patch and UBI softs abscense?
Before that he was quiet.

What if RBJ is an data entity? What if RBJ is our creation? What if RBJ isn't a real person but instead the bad energy of this community?

http://members.chello.se/ven/rbj-anim.gif

When this community is upset and in agony our bad energy feeds the entity known as RBJ.
Then he surface and taunts us with his posts.

If we all try to keep these boards in harmony then maybe RBJ will disappear.

Then again...maybe not. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

More pilots know than you imagine Ray, myself and a couple of squad mates for sure, we just don't want to spoil the fun and so stay silent.
I met you four or five years ago when you hosted a 1v1 in CFS 1, on entering your room you challenged me with "Are you an ACE? ...BECAUSE I AM ! ...and in words I cant quite remember went on to add that if I wasn't also an ace I should not waste your time, my reply was "Ace is subjective" this satisfied you and the game began, we used the"then"largely dominant P.51, like yourself I was familiar with the "manual mix" exploit of the time and after we had fought a while, (a rather cagey energy type combat as I recall) your attitude normalised and you became friendly...even helpful, though you did give me some mild scorn after I changed to the Hurricane.

To the curious, Ray is all the things he says he is,....and perhaps some of the things the more shrewd forum members believe also ;-)

ok

just thought id say that since RBJ's identity is currently at risk i have decided to instigate my own private investigation, and have spent the morning working on a theory as to who it may be.

i was surprised to find that everything started to fall into place and i think i am very near to uncovering his identity.

however i am merely doing this for myself - so if his identity is publicly revealed i will have the satisfaction of knowing RBJ provided me with one last bit of fun before he was ousted! - (if he is someone else)

however if he is not unmasked then i kinda hope my theory is wrong - as i would like to keep the mystery going - but i cannot resist from persuing this further - there is only an acid test to do now before i draw my final conclusion as to who our Clark kent may be!
hehe it's quite exciting actually /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

note - stringently edited to remove any possible clues as to who it may be

Yes, I too know RBJ from CFS 1. Honor prevents revealing, however.

that settles it for me. rbj is one of the mods. otherwise why the threat about not revealing it? telling everyone the alias name RBJ belongs to another "unknown in real life" callsign here is not an invasion of privacy. that doesnt even make sense. every name in here is an alias. aka callsign. i could be reddeth aka RBJ aka WarEagleBaron. but im not.........am i ?????

Geez..I tried to resist posting but I can't stand passing it up.

I know who he is.

I know he knows that I know who he is.

But..I always let him think that I don't know even when I'm talking to him.

A $1.27 is not enough for me to reveal it, no amount would be enough.

The fact that he knows I know is enough for me.

I've said too much already.
